Hello All

I've had my IPAQ for about a week now and there is something still bgging me.

In Messaging, I noticed that one account called "Outlook E-Mail" has been created automatically. By the name, I immagine that this is for e-mails that get synchronised with Microsoft Outlook.

In order to be able to check my e-mails on the move, I created another account with the same settings as the one that Microsoft Outlook uses. Let's call it "Account1"

Here are my questions:
1) I noticed that my e-mails were downloaded into "Account1" during synchronisation. Is there any way of stopping this?
2) Can I synchronise "Account1" with Microsoft Outlook? Can I modify the "Outlook E-Mail" account so I can use it to download my e-mail while on the move?
3) In "Account1", can I have messages deleted from the server once they are downloaded?

Many thanks for your help

Patrick

You can only "sync" to one desktop's Outlook, the 1st partnership you created with. For other mail account, you'll have to set them up as POP or IMAP mail, and access them directly through internet connection.

Thanks AnswerDude for posting. I understand what you are saying but it doesn't really tell me how I can achieve my objective.

What I really want to do is the following

I use Microsoft Outlook to access my e-mail from my desktop. Upon connection, any e-mails get synched with the IPAQ and I can find the same e-mails in Messaging for reading on the move. I would like to access the same account directly from my IPAQ and have any e-mails downloaded directly t the IPAQ transferred to the desktop upon connection.

Any ideas?

Regards

Patrick

I'm not quite clear on what you are trying to do. So you are saying that you want to sync mail to "two" seperated desktops? As i said above, unfortunately you cannot. If that's not the case, what connection method are you going to use to get your mail to the iPAQ on the move?

The Outlook E-mail account on your PPC has the sole purpose of syncing with the main Outlook inbox on your desktop. One enhancement that has been added over the years is that you can now also sync subfolders in your main Outlook inbox, but that is it. Through standard ActiveSync, there is no connection between any other inbox on your PPC and your desktop Outlook. And the only way you can retrieve mail on your device using the standard Messaging applet is by setting up an additional inbox with the appropriate server settings. By default, though, you cannot set the Messaging applet to remove items from a POP3 server.

You will need to add something like Intellisync to your ActiveSync installation to get more sync flexibility (e.g. adding other PPC inbox accounts to the sync with your desktop Outlook). To get more options as far as managing email accounts from your device, you will need to investigate apps like Gmail as Messaging replacements. Messaging and ActiveSync are pretty plain Jane and cannot do what you wish to do.

I think I know what you mean, and these are the ways I've sorted it. I'm using a coporate email account so have some added functionality...

1) Use IMAP if you have it That way sent box/in-box are synced wirelessly

2) Sync directly with the exchange server. I have an option (now set up) where the IPAQ syncs directly with the Exchange server. When it's not in it's cradle, it connects via my bluetooth phone and get's on with the job. Contacts, Diary in and sent all get synced and it works remarkable well!

Other option is getting something like Webis Mail, as you move mail between folders.

......or

Sell it it and by a Psion Netbook becuse this will let you do exactly what you want....only problem is that it doesn't have smpt authentication!!!
