Hey guys,
I'm trying to decide between these two: the HP iPAQ HX2750 and the Dell Axim X50. Which do you think is better? And why?
I don't need the iPaq's biometric identification, and it seems to me that the v50 is nicer looking... but I haven't seen any of them in person...
So which do you think is better, and why?
BTW: I'm mentioning the X50 and not the X50V, because i've heard some opinions that say that although the X50V is supposed to be superior to the X50 - its battery life is very bad, and the video performance is also not very good. Do you agree?
Thanks!

It really depends on what you want to do with the pda. Generally if you don't mind the much higher price of the hx2750, it has faster cpu and larger memory. hx2750 is designed mostly for business use. If you don't need all the horse power, lower price Dell is probably a better choice.
As for x50v, because it is a vga pocketpc, it does use more battery power, but the battery is removable/replaceble and you can get higher capacity battery. What you heard about video performance of x50v is wrong, it is one of the best video performance right now. The screen is also slighty larger (3.7" instead of 3.5"), only iPAQ hx4700 has larger screen. Because it has VGA mode, it is among the few pocketpc that can play vga resolution video files. It also has 3d graphic chip that let you play certain 3-d games that you cannot play on any other pocketpc.

Ahem... so you recommend the x50v on the x50? even without the extra battery? (about how much money should such a battery cost?)

If the cost diffrerent (which is less than $100 right now) does not concern you, then yes, if you are going to use it in multimedia area at all, x50v is defintely better than x50. Many mutimedia programs such as Betaplayer are optimized for x50v. There are a few video demostrating the power of x50v 3d chip here;

Dell has extra normal battery for $50, and double capacity one for $100.

OK, thanks. Please also tell me - disregarding the better/bigger CPU/memory - what are the differences between the X50 and that iPaq?
I'll focus the question a bit better - are there ways in which the X50 is actually better than the iPaq?

If cheaper price of axim x50 is not considered a factor then no, the hx2750 is a better unit. Besides the faster speed and larger memory, i think hx2750 comes with larger capacity battery and some will say that it has better screen as well. It's the fastest pocketpc in the market right now. You can see the benchmark here;
http://www.mobiletechreview.com/iPAQ_hx2750.htm
If you don't need the speed, and you don't want to spend more money, then go with the cheaper unit. But if you can afford it, base on my experiences, users will always want more speed and power later on after they figure out what they can do with their units.

Ahem... ok... on it's own, would you even consider the Axim x50 to be a "recommended" Pocket PC PDA? Could you name any major drawbacks it has?

Again it's really depened on what you want to use the pda for. The x50 is a good unit, for most basic needs,you will be happy with it. With limited budget, yes i would recommend it. If you ask, which model is better without budget concern, hx2750 is a better model. The only drawback is again base on my experiences, after using the units for a while and figure out what you can do with it, many felt like they should have gotten a more powerful unit. For what it costs, the x50 is a nice model.

I disagree. The X50V is the better choice. I spent a long time comparing the two models (i just bought the X50V). Even though the 2750 has more ram, it's QVGA screen is where it breaks down. You're going to want a device that can maintain itself for a while. Hey, I want biometric security as much as the next guy, but HP's scanner blows. I've heard that some people have fooled it with a FREAKIN GUMMYBEAR. The extra RAM is nice, but that's not really the issue when you can get a SD card with more memory.

Are you referring to my comment above that "the hx2750 is a better unit"? I was commenting on x50 (the qvga model) and hx2750.
