Hello,

I recently bought a broken netBook. The motherboard is broken but all other parts are functional even the memory chip.

What is the difference between the standard memory chip and the memory extension chip ?

When I plug the memory chip in the second slot, it is not recognised as a memory extension. Is there a way to make that work.

Please can some one tell me ???
PLEASE REPLY

The 'standard' memory chip I take to be the Netbook's so called personality module. This should contain 3 big ICs, two identical SRAM chips for 16Mbytes of RAM, and a boot ROM chip.

32Mbyte expansion module has 4 of these SRAM ICs, all identical.

Series 7 16Mbyte RAM expansion module WILL NOT WORK IN THE NETBOOK. This uses the same raw PWB as the Netbook's personality module, with the two SRAM ICs, but has no (almost) square boot ROM fitted.

I suggest that your memory expansion module might be for a Series 7, and this will not work in the Netbook as it shares the same position in the memory map as the SRAM on the personality module ??

Hope this is helpful,

Ralph
