I had a non- functional m500 that I took apart, cleaned, & put back together. The unit now works, but the backlite doesn't work.
It did work prior to opening the unit up. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thejeepman

You probably messed something up inside of it and you'll likely need to get it repaired.

They say "repetition is the mother of invention." But I have my doubts at this moment.
Jeepman if the 500 was "nonfunctional" how do you know the backlight was working? Can I assume that you have owned this 500 for some time and are familiar with the poor excuse for a backlight that we are talking about?

Jeepman.
By now you have probably resolved the problem by reopening the m500 but if not it is time. Double check the cable that goes to the screen, I am not sure on the m500 but there might be either two or three ribbon cables to the screen; one of them is going to be the backlight and should be rechecked.

Thanks for the advice Doc. I opened her up & checked all the connections. After putting her back together, still no backlite.
To answer your question, when I purchased this M500 it would power up & go to the welcome screen, but no farther ( would not respond to the stylus) & the buttons wouldn't work. The backlite did work prior to opening her up. After I opened her up & put her back together, everything works fine, but now no backlite.
THANKS to everyone who has offered adivce to me with the problems I've had, your advice has helped a great deal!!!

The sad truth is that the backlight was never anything you wanted to show a friend, unless you needed to see them laugh.
