A friend gave me a Tungsten C; however, it came without the software CDs--both Palm Desktop Software and Software Essentials. I can live without the SE (which is sort of a patchwork from various programs), but do need the desktop software, which so far I have been unable to download.
Is there any way that I can get copies of the original Palm CDs that came with the Tungsten C (none of my friends have it)?
Just so you know, we have Microsoft Windows 98, and an Intel Pentium computer.

You can download desktop version 4.01 from http://www.palmone.com/us/support/downloads/palmdt_4.html . This should work with your T|C. The only issue might be hotsync drivers but I think 4.01 has the correct drivers for the T|C.
If you want the original CD. all you have to do is call Palm Customer Service and order one. It's about $10 plus shipping.

After repeated attempts to download Palm desktop software, I gave up. Then I contacted Palm via e-mail re getting replacement CDs. Their rep said that if you are within warranty(which I am not), they cost $14.95; otherwise, I have to use Palm software (back to Square 1).
Here is Palm's policy, according to their customer rep Reyjen:
* For customers whose hardware is within warranty and their CD is defective or missing, we send out a replacement pack without charge after escalating and exhausting all troubleshooting steps. Remember, any telephone call to Palm coss $25, unless it is about a repair under warranty.
* For customers whose hardware is within warranty but their CD has been lost or damaged, we replace for a $14.95 fee.
* For customers whose hardware is outside the warranty, we will direct you to our website for the Palmâ„¢ Desktop download or other websites for other software or conduit updates.
Is there any other solution? (Other than never, never, never dealing with Palm)?!

There are two issues here. First, why are you unable to download the Palm Desktop form the link I gave you? I just tried it and it worked fine. What are the exact problems you're having doing what should be a simple download?
Second, even if you still can't download the Palm desktop, Palm will sell you just the desktop software on CD. The issue with the original CD is that there are some commercial programs on the CD. It uses to be that Palm would sell you a replacement CD as long as you could provide the serial number from your T|C. I have no idea why or when they changed this policy.

Okay, if your on the internet and you can download other files, then you should be able to download the Desktop software from PalmOne's website. If something is keeping you from doing this, than you have bigger more pertinent problems with your PC that should be dealt with!
Before you fret too much try downloading the appropriate version from dowload.com

Perhaps your having some wierd problem with Palm's website

I tried again, and this time when I downloaded Jim's first suggestion at http://www.palmone.com/us/support/d...s/palmdt_4.html . it worked.
Thanks to all of you.
