Help!

I recently upgraded my PC from Windows ME to XP and as a result I have not been able to HotSync my m500. I have the new antistatic cradle and it worked OK before the change.

I've contacted the Palm techs via e-mail and have used their instructions for removing all Palm and Hotsync programs from the PC and reinstalled the 4.0.1 Palm program from the CD-ROM but to no avail. When I check the Hardware Wizard on the PC it says something like the device driver may be corrupted or missing.

I'm just about ready to drive a stake through it's silicon heart and ship it back to them.

Jack,

I am sure that you have tried this, but I had a similar problem when I made the upgrade from ME to XP. I finally found out that I needed to shut down everything running hit the hot sync button and at that point XP discovered "a new device", then I had to let it install the USB drivers at that time. My first hotsync timed out because it took a little while to let windows install the drivers, but after that it worked.

I am sorry if this is of no help, but thought I would see if my experience could help you.

Have a nice day,

Did you uninstall the Palm Desktop software, before upgrading?
If not try the route Calvados provided and if that doesn't get you back up and running try removing and reinstalling the Palm DeskTop.

When I first tried to hotsync after upgrading, it appeared that it found a new device and started to updated the drivers but then it seemed to fail. I've since tried to force it to update by using the hardware wizard but I get an error message that says the drivers are non-existant or corrupted.
As per Palm's instructions, I have removed the program and re-installed it, several times with the same result.
What really galls me is that Palm recommends that I call their tech service and get charged $25. I guess they have me over a barrel at this point.

Jack,

I have searched through the old board archives and found this address with a note on the upgrade to XP and sync problems. I don't know if it will help, but it won't cost anything to give it a try.

Here is the link:

Link ot XP sync Problems on Archive board (http://www.palmblvd.com/boards/Palm-m505/messages/11563.html)

Hope this works for you,

Calvados,
Many Thanks!
The method for reinstalling the USB Drivers worked! The hotsync worked and I was able to reinstall the other programs I have. Everything looks normal.

Thanks,
Jack

Jack,

Glad it worked for you and glad I could be of help. I know what it is like to try and live without my Palm, hard to do.

Have a good day,
