I am new to forums and hope someone can help. I have used and my 3600 for a couple years with surprisingly few problems. I now find that I have no sound through the internal speaker. Betty works fine through the car adapter, but no Navigation or other sounds when it is not in the cradle. Any ideas?

I have a 3600 as well, no problems for a year, bought new.

Now, I have no voice at all either plugged in or not.

Everything else works fine.

What I don't understand in my unit is how all sound is lost (GPS, voice recorder, alarms), yet it works through the cradle. Does that mean there is a problem with the speaker in the unit?
Since many of you seem to have returned or repaired your units, what would the procedure be, since my machine would obviously be out of warrenty.
Thanks

The cradle sound is different. There's an audio output in the connector at the bottom of the iQue.
There are two possibilities, as far as I can understand.

1. Your speaker is bad, gone, kaputt.
2. The iQue seems to think that you have the cradle connected all the time, thus sends the audio out to the connector.

All kind of volume settings, which could kill the sound, are supposed to kill it in the external speaker as well.

The internal loudspeaker is connected through an arrangement, where the main PCB simply pushes against another, very small PCB. If there's something wrong with that connection, then there will be no sound, of course. If you are handy with electronics, then open the iQue, remove the main PCB, wash the connector with some electronics cleaning agent, put it back together and try it out. This will cause a hard reset, so make sure you perform a backup first.

Anders,
I think you are correct that the problem is with the internal speaker, or it is somehow stuck sending sound out to the external speaker. I can play sound from games, and all programs through the cradle, but nothing internal. I am not nearly sophisticated enough to attempt the fix you suggested. What other options do I have. I hesitate to send out the machine as I use it every day.

Two other options:

1. Ship to Garmin.

2. Make a vacation trip in my direction.

I've had my 3600 for under a month, and this just happened to me today :(

I had it set to a wake-up alarm this morning, which worked. But at the first alarm on the calendar today, the screen went on, the light blinked...but no sound. I tried changing the sound settings in Prefs -> General to invoke audio, but nothing. I also plugged in my headphones to no avail (so, it's not the internal speaker)

So, I soft-reset the unit, and now sound is restored! I hope this isn't a regular occurence...

I wouldn't say it's regular, but it has happened a couple of times, for me, too.

I have no "internal speaker sound" for almost a year now - cradle sound works fine, but still very annoying

nothing i do can restore it (hard reset, soft reset, ...)

<hum> i just fixed it by performing a "non volatile reset" (which i didn't know existed until a few minutes ago)...

Non Volatile Reset - This reset clears out all the GPS data and restores all GPS settings to factory defaults. Particularly useful for our European users where the Egnos sats can sometimes send out test data the iQue doesn't like.
To perform, press and hold the ESC button and the datebook button while pressing the reset button. Hold the ESC and datebook buttons for at least 10 seconds and release.

It sounds like you need three hands for that type of reset

I was astounded that the 3-handed technique worked. I now have sound for the first time in a year. I can't imagine how they came up with that combination.
Thanks
