Hi everyone,

The other day I found a file on my 5mx was corrupt (a TimeLog file as it happens). I tried to copy the most recent backup of this file (from Archive 1 in my PC backup folder) across to the 5mx. (I use PsiWin v 2.2) I kept getting the message:
>>
The Filename below is not suitable for EPOC16 machines. The filename should consist of 8 letters and a 3 letter extension. Please use the suggested name or type your own.
>>
The "filename below" is the one originally used for the file on my 5mx. The "suggested name" is identical. No matter what I enter in place of the suggested name, this same error message reappears.

Exactly the same happens with any other file from recent archives that I try to copy from the PC backup folder to the Psion. However, files from the oldest archives I can copy back.

Why this talk of EPOC16? I understand that's the Series 3 OS. Why should I get this message in connection with my 5mx?

But more to the point - how do I get newly backed-up files copied back?

(BTW - there's a message from me on the FileSaveAs Forum saying I'd solved this problem; that was premature.)

TIA for your help,

Chris

Odd ...

I find that I can copy the files back to the 5mx if I navigate to them using Explorer rather than accessing them via the 'My Psion' icon in the regular way.

Hi Chris.,

It seems PsiWin thinks your 5mx is a 3!

Try reregistering your 5mx under another name and backing up again. If that doesn’t work you should try deleting PsiWin (and use the registry cleaner) and reinstalling. Martin Guthrie (http://www.pscience5.net/) has a few versions of PsiWin as well as the registry cleaner.
