I would like to buy an Ique 3600a for flying in europe. But on the Ique's specifications I see it only has "Jeppesen, terrain and U.S. obstacles databases".

Is there a way to get an European database onto the 3600a to use it in Europe as well ?

Thank you !

The European basemap is delivered on the CD, the European terrain model can be downloaded from Garmin's web page (for free) and the European Jeppesen data can be bought from the same site.
There is no obstacle database available for Europe, so for that, you have to rely on the old rule "to see where you fly".

However, the 3600a has shown a lot of software-related problems, while using it in Europe. A remedy for that is on its way, so keep your eyes out for an announcement of an update.

Anders,

Thank you !
Is there a place the problems can be looked up ?
Does it mean the device is not usable for flying in europe ?

Thanks,
Philipp

No, there's no particular place to look these problems up, right now.
No, it doesn't make it useless for flying in Europe, but it does have some bugs, which may cause problems (like that the unit suddenly restarts, on its own) occasionally.
As long as you don't rely solely on the 3600a for navigation (something that's not very smart, in any case), it will still be a good help.

But as I said, pretty soon there will be a free update available, which will take care of this problem, and at the same time introduce about 40 other enhanchements or corrections.

Anders,

Thank you very much !
As I understand the updates you talk about are just software updates. Therefore a 3600a can then should able to be updated to the latest level.

Thanks,
Philipp

Anders, is it possible to confirm that the current hardware configuration of the 3600a (as sold in the US) is definitive?
I thought you mentioned that there were some preproduction features in your 3600 a's, e.g. vulnerable components close to the stylus well.

Anders, Jonas,

I visited a reseller here in Zurich today and he told me the 3600a they are selling now is a new release that it has many problems fixed.
He tested one and found it working ok.

May there be more fixes coming ?

Regards,
Philipp

I don't know if the components, which could be damaged by the stylus, has been moved on more recent models.

The changes I'm talking about are related to software.

The problems that does exist aren't anything that shows up just at a short test. You have to use it for a while, and then in certain surroundings, for these problems to emerge.

Hi folks
Lock ups and reboots have happened to all Ique 3600a. My Americas iQue is unreliable and freezes ramdomly. Actually I am very disappointed with it. Garmin should have tested it more before releasing it. Do you know when the new software update will be available? I have left it in a drawer and used my old and reliable GPS92 while waiting for Garmin .
Fortunatelly there is a forum like this...thank you

Hi Pilotero,

What I was told is that the fixes have been developed and are currently under testing and certification. The release date was not known in the reply I got.

Before they can release a major upgrade for any Palm device, the firmware has to pass through Palm for verification. This is the state this update is supposed to be in right now.
Normally, that takes a couple of weeks.

There are more than 30 improvements in the next release for the 3600a.
