I want to replace the 4m compact flash card that came with my Psion with a larger capacity card.
How big can I go and are there any particular requirements?
Are there any brands to avoid. Seen a lot of ads for the brand Ridata - are they any good?

Hi there,
Most compact flash cards are compatible with Psions. Becareful of the really cheap ones as you will find the most compatibility problems with them. Expansys seem to be the most reasonable and quite good cards although I had problems when buying a 128mb. I eventually stuck with Clove Technologies who sell the Simple Technologies brand. I have never had any problems with these and have a 12mb, 48mb & 128mb cards all trouble free.
Re maximum size, I don't think you will have much trouble with any size (not tried anything over 256mb though). Only thing to consider is back up times. Obviously squeezing 256mb down a serial lead will take some time, so it may be worth your while getting a USB CF Card reader aswell as you can back up and load software onto this really quickly.
If you need any other info, just post here.

I use a 128MB Sandisk CF card. Browsing is very slow, but further it works fine.

YOu can use bigger cards. I would only use name brands. A reader would be a good investment for you. NOt any sense in using it off the Psion when a reader would be much quicker. IN fact a reader that uses more than one type of card would bea good choice and the prices are reasonable for you. ZxPro sells such a reader. There are others but as an example.

Try www.crucial.com or www.mx2.org for excellent value and reliable flash cards.
I've bought from both companies and can recommend them.

Apparently the limit should be 128Mb, but I think as mentioned here 256 should work fine. There are some new Type I compact flash cards on the market (Notably from Hitachi) that go all the way up to a Gigabyte - I would love to know if anyone has tried one of these yet! www.ebuyer.com (http://www.ebuyer.com) is a great site for memory cards, at a fantastic price! It's a UK site, although they post outside the uk.
