I am looking for a printer for my netbook that is able to print in color. I read that the bjc-85 is a good choice but it is a little expensive, does anyone have another sugestion?

I understood you can print everything in color using the bjc driver. Does anyone have any info on the quality of the printout?

This is the place for all things printable, very helpful and generous in making the drivers avaiable free.

The quality of the printing depends largely on what you put in!
I have used my BJ85 to print out colour handouts for clients and the colour of the fonts and the 'clipart' graphics is excellent.

However when I tried to print out colour photographs, the resolution was only average (as I should have expected).

The rendering of the colour however is brilliant, and even more so because the machine comes with an air tight carrier for the open but unused print head (if you use the 'Black' cartidge for most of your printing and only use the 'Colour' cartridge when necessary). This means that you can change cartridges quickly and with confidence (now if only they had those for the BJC 260 I have attached to my PC!)

However it is a great addition for a 'road warrior' to be able to prepare and present slide shows by printing out your presentation onto an overhead slide when you find the venue doesn't have a projector, or to hand out to the particpants!

The only cautions that I have are:

a) make sure you use the 'Black' BCI-10 when printing lots of text as the little BCI-11 black cartridge that is part of the colour print head doesn't last long and is fairly expensive to replace.

b) be a little cautious when the colour print head runs out of ink. The drivers for the PC have a system that allows you to find out which of the cartridges on the colour print head (black or colour) is out of ink, I haven't been able to determine this visually, yet. Because the Psion drivers for this printer don't have this information you may change the wrong cartridge when the 'error' light comes on the printer. Either take pot luck or connect to a PC when the cartridge is low!

Otherwise I love my little printer.
Hope this helps
Fred

Can you tell me, when connected to a PC, if the print quality compares to anything from a "regular" desktop printer? I am asking since I would like to purchase a printer I can use for both systems.

In connection with PC, the print quality of my BJC-55 is much higher than with netbook, in windows you can switch to high-quality modes. But rember, this printer may give you 720x360 dpi maximum, so being compared with "desktop" printers capable of 4800x4800 dpi, the quality is relative :-)
