hey guys,

quick question..just switching from an older palm IIIxe, amd wondering what expansion on this new dell X5 is better, compact flash or SD, and what the difference is? Can you run programs and Mp3's off both? and is this pocket pc way better than palm?

also anybody know of any e-Value codes for Canada?

Thanks so much!!

Both compact flash and SD are good expansions. You will find that Compact flash is cheaper than SD, but If you are considering buying CF peripherals in the future, then make sure you have some SD memory cards. Compact flash is a little faster, for example you can find 12x compact flash, while most SD are either 2x or 4x. YES you can run mp3's off both, but remember, if you use your windows media player, it converts the mp3s to wma.
NOW FOR THE BIG QUESTION!
"is palm better than pocketpc?"
I've personally owned Windows CE and now Pocketpc devices for over 3 years. I am totally satisfied with them. I know that there are more programs out there for palm, but what your pocketpc comes with is plenty! People will say palm is better and others will say pocketpc is better, i think it's a personal preferrance. I will say what I've always been saying, "Just buy whatever Bill Gates creates, because sooner or later it will dominate the market." and this is becoming true for Pocketpcs

Do we have to convert mp3 to wma before copying the file to CF memory, or media player does it on the fly?

Thanks.

Media player does it for you. I wouldn't call it on the fly, but it does for you. It's kind of slow, but it does it.

You don't need to convert mp3 to wma if you don't want to. WMP can play mp3 files just fine, just copy the mp3 files to any folder on the main or storage card of the pocketpc using File Explorer on the desktop after activesync the unit.
