I recently purchased a palm III at a garage sale. However, it came with no manual. Short of buying a new one, is there an alternative to learning how it works? Also, I was inputting dates on the calendar with no problems, but now I finf the screen shows a screen advising info can be inputed 3 ways, one of which is graffiti. Unfornatel, I am caught in a loop and am unable to make this screen disappear and add memo's to the calendar. I am open to any ideas

You might need to do a hard or soft reset. A soft reset, you use the tip of a paper clip to poke it in the little hole on the back of your palm. It won't erase your info. But that likely won't work any better than turning off your palm and turning it on again. You will probably need to do a hard reset, which is where you hold the on/off button and at the same time poke your paper clip into the same hole on the back. This clears EVERYTHING, and resets factory defaults. You then either do a hotsync and restore your information, or you can uninstall the palm desktop from your computer and reinstall your software from scratch and start over clean. If you end up back at the same problem as before, you likely have an hardware issue with no solution. But I have had glitches like that on occasion (once or twice a year) and it always seems to be fine. I had to reinstall everything from scratch one time and the problem didn't return.
Anyway, as for graffiti and such. Have you used the built in keyboard? On the right of the area where you do your graffiti, there is a house icon, and under that a list Icon. Click on that icon, at any time and it brings down a little menu at the top. There's actually several little pull downs at the top and the second one, usually, has the option to use the keyboard. Click on that and a little keyboard comes up on the screen and then you can just tap each letter with your stylus.
Hope that helps.
Good luck.
