I'm not sure if it is a new Palm OS thing or a Garmin thing to not include the Notepad program, but either way I found it particularly useful. Are there any good alternatives to it? The same feature set would be good - nothing less, nothing more (more is fine ;). Basically the ability to jot notes easily, put an alarm it, title the note, etc. Oh, yeah, free would also be preferable ;)

Any such existant program?

Diddlebug (http://diddlebug.sourceforge.net/)? A Windoze version - WindleBug - exists, too.

Er...I tried that already - it's buggy and doesn't work properly.

DiddleBug works very well for me. Anyway, you could try BugMe; or google for e.g. "palm notepad" or "palm notepad replacement".

I couldln't get it working properly. After closing and re-entering the DiddleBug program, only the top 10% of the last note I took would show. It looked like the bottom 90% was erased. As for BugMe, I don't think I want to pay $20 USD for a notepad.

Diddlebug has always worked flawlessly for me, I've used it for years. Something was wrong with your installation.

I don't know why Garmin decided to ditch the notepad. I realize that the Q button is using the Palm's notepad button, but they could still have one. I use Diddlebug, too, but I also use WordSmith (http://www.bluenomad.com/ws/prod_wordsmith_details.html). Far from free, but a really great app. It has a memo tab for simple stuff and a doc tab for formatted stuff.

Have you searched on PalmGear? They have lots of free stuff.

Ah ha...I must have been using an older version that didn't fully support OS 5. I just downloaded the latest version, which seems to be working.

Thanks! :)

Update: FYI, you can beam the Notepad PRC from another OS5 unit using a program that ignores file locks, such as FileZ - and it works perfectly! :)

I beamed Notepad over to my iQue from my dad's Zire 31.

I use Sketcher ver 2.0 It is freeware. I have had no problems with it on my iQue 3600.

I just actually deleted DiddleBug off of my iQue. It's a nice program, easy-to-use, it works...the only thing is that the DiddleBug alarm conflict with any other alarms (eg.: datebook) if set off at the same time, causing a hang with a constant tone of the midi file. It needs a soft reset to be fixed.

Since I have Palm Notepad now, I'm fine without DiddleBug or Sketcher (which I tried just for kicks). Thanks all!
