Can I connect/browse internet on my iQue M5 using BlueTooth via my connected Laptop (Win2k) which is connected via WiFi connection.

Also, can I upload maps to iQue M5 via BlueTooth?

Thanks much,
RK

There are several general bluetooth guides that may help;

If you can get ActiveSync via Bluetooth to work, then you can do both with ease. The ActiveSync connection doubles as a network connection that lets you browse the Internet from the M5 via your PC.

The guide got me only so far and its aimed at Dell Axim and the options are not even close! (I've tried comibations all nite and ended up re-installing ActiveSync and Bluetooth Adapter)

Are there any previous posts or links exclusively for iQue M5 - connecting to computer for both ActiveSync and connec to Internet via Bluetooth?

Thanks!

Configure a Bluetooth serial port service on the PC and make a note of the COM port number. Open the ActiveSync connection settings and configure it to listen for connections on this COM port.

On the M5, open BT Explorer and pair the M5 with the PC. Explore the PC from the M5 and connect to the Bluetooth serial port. Specify "ActiveSync" rather than "Serial Port" as the connection type. Hit OK and ActiveSync should connect. Note that you don't make the connection from within ActiveSync on the M5, but rather from BT Explorer.

Sometimes after using Bluetooth to sync you may find yourself unable to sync using USB. If this happens, open ActiveSync on the M5, go to the options page, and change the connection method from Bluetooth to 'USB default' (or something along those lines; don't have the M5 with me at the moment).

Thanks AKlopper..that worked :)
Thanks AnswerDude for the guide.

On a related note, is there a hack/setting to speed up the internet browsing from iQue M5? (seems really slow).

Cheers!

This tweak usually provides general display speed up;

This TCP window size tweak can work on certain network;

There are detailed explanation of tcp/ip registry values here:

You can get free registry editor from;

And depending on what type of connection you have, 3rd party browser can give you better performances;

RKNOTES,
I was wondering why you would want to browse the internet on your M5 when you have a laptop to browse on? Personally I use the bluetooth to connect to my SE T-610 (T-Mobile) and can say that the browser is not really comfortable for internet browsing, even in landscape mode. Using IE or other full screen browser on your laptop would be much more productive.

on another note, I have browsed using IE on my M5 when connected via cradle and it is actually slower then using the bluetooth dialer to my cell phone. I am not sure why. I was using a cable modem w/syncing in cradle.

Haha..that's a good dig :)

The only reason is because we have only one laptop and once in a while its busy and I could just browse any last minute/urgent info like weather or stock info on M5.

Yes, I agree its way too slow for any productive web surfing.

FYI, if you were considering a wifi card for your M5, you can forget about getting a new one. Sandisk has stopped making the 256k/wifi card. bestbuy, amazon and compusa are all sold out. Theres always ebay, but i got skrewed on ebay so for me theres no more options except for Socket S SDIO Wlan Card by Socket Communications, Inc.

the only thing is that i dont know if its compatible with the M5

For useful information about sd wifi card, take a look at this thread:
http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57274
Basically, people had serious problem with combo memory/wifi card, not sure if that's the reason it's discontinued. And users also reported good experiences with AmbiCom card.

Just out of curiosity I went out and got a bluetooth adapter for my laptop and tried to get a internet connection w/ the M5.

I was only able to successfully pair the M5 with my laptop to do a OBEX Object push (file transfer). I got connected using a Personal Area Network setting (in the M5) to my laptop but was not able to enable the passthrough for internet access. The Laptop did recognize the M5 in the network but for some reason it wouldn't work as a passthrough. I tried multiple settings including switching COM ports without luck.

I think that it may have something to do with the encryption settings that I have on my router so one of these days I will disable the security just to test it out.
