I just got my hands on one Ericsson MC218 and haven't studied its functions yet. Only the basic. I downloaded the PsiWin 2.3.3 and managed to connect it to my pc at work (Win98), will I have any problems with my WinXP at home ? And my main question is: Is it possible to share my Internet connection with this little baby ? So I can browse the Net and send email via POP3, while at the same time my brother is chatting on my PC.. ?

Also can anyone recommend me some useful stuff to upload on my MC218 ? Free programs, etc... ?

Hi there,

Psiwin 2.3.3 is full compatible with XP Pro & Home Edition. Has worked fine for me for several months now.

Re connecting to the internet via your PC, I do remember reading something not so long ago regarding this. I think there is a piece of software which enables this but PsiWin has to be disabled/closed down for it to work. It connects using the serial/IRDA port. Check out the old message boards for more info.

Re software. There are hundreds of great titles around for ER5. You just have to look for them (not that hard). Check out the free & shareware sites listed below:

If you need any other help, just post.

Try Tucows for freeware and software.

If you after some useful information files try Shaun McGill's filegrabber site. (It may close soon but it's still a great site.)

If you want to look at messages in the old Psion Place boards go to http://www.psionplace.com/boards/

The simplest way to connect to the internet using the PC's modem is with a little application called "PassThru" from Kevin Millican, although this is NOT "Internet Connection Sharing" - it is just using the PC's modem while the PC isn't using it. Kevin's site is http://millican.info/Home/

Hey thanks, Mike! That's cool! I'll check it out. But I have some new questions (sorry, hehe :) So..
2 days ago I bought a brand new backup battery and inserted it in. The battery info showed full power, and "Good" status for it. Then my main batteries had to be recharged and i put them in my recharging adapter... So the MC218 was on backup battery for about 24 hours or so.. and when i put in the recharged batteries, the Info for the backup one was: status "Low" and the power meter was 2.8 mAh (3.1 when it was new).... Why's that ?
I thought that a backup battery should last about 1 year or something... ??? Or am I wrong ?
Some advices on batteries, recharging and stuff ??

The purpose of the backup battery is to retain the data in the machine during the short period of time it takes to replace the main batteries. You should NOT leave it on backup battery only while recharging the main batteries - put in another set of batteries immediately. I always connect a mains adaptor when changing main batteries as an additional safeguard against losing data.

A significant charge is drawn from the batteries even when the machine is off and this will deplete the backup battery in a very short time if there are no main batteries installed.

What you need is MochaPPP - should do exactly what you want. Basically you can hook into an Internet connection which is already established on your PC. See this link for an excellent step-by-step guide:

Hope that helps :)

Thank you all guys! So I'll get a mains power adaptor to connect while recharging. And I'll check this Mocha program too. Thanks again!

It's a small world :)

I've never looked at MochaPPP but someone sent me a private email today asking about it so I thought I had better have a look at it. I downloaded it and within 5 minutes of installing it in the PC had my mailbox open in the Revo - it was so simple that I really was pleasantly surprised.

This was in a Win 98SE PC. Does anyone know if it works OK with Win XP?

For MochaPPP, the file you want is "Mocha W32 PPP" which is under the "Palm Pilot" files. The website to download from is http://www.mochasoft.dk/f_view.html

I believe it does - but no personal experience, as I'm using Win2000 Pro. Works like a charm on that with my ADSL connection.

I believe both Win2000 and XP have something inbuilt that does the same job - RAS server, I think it is called. I haven't investigated - Mocha has worked so well for me I haven't felt the need.
