Calling all netbook and 7book owners, your help is needed.

Do you suffer from Triple-Beep resets when you have any type of PC Card permenantly installed (e.g. inserted but not necessarily being used).

Experiment
** If you have a Psion Gold card (modem, LAN or combined) can you leave it in your Psion over the next week or so. Use the machine as per usual to see if you start experiencing any Triple Beep Resets (You don't have to actually use the card for the problem to occur as long as it is installed). **

A triple beep reset is similar to a soft reset but just a little noisier !!

Whether the answer is 'Yes' or 'No', please can you confirm you Psion details (netbook/7book), OS version (and Build) installed and the type/model of card inserted when a TBR occurs or when you don't.

Kind Regards

Simon :)

Hi,

I suffer from Triple Beep Resets with a PC Card. I have a 7book (7 build 756 with netbook personality module 32mb and v158(450) OS).

PC Card's affected - Psion Dacom V34 + fax, Psion Dacom 56k + fax and Psion CombineIT V90 56k / 10-100 LAN (with netbook compatibility hardware upgrade).

Problems mainly occur when either card is installed but not in use.

Si

I have a netBook with OS release 158, build 450. I do not suffer TBRs with a PC Card plugged in, whether it is in use or not.

I have used a CombineIT LAN Global 10/100, a Linksys WPC11 and an Enterasys Roamabout.

Hi Si

Same as Yan here - netBook OS 158, build 450. I can't ever recall experiencing a TBR.

I have a Dacom 56k+ Fax modem, which is more or less permanently resident - only gets removed when I want to use either my CF or SM card adapter. Have used a V34 on occasions too.

Also recently acquired a CombineIT LAN 10/100, and a CombineIT WAN 56k+ Fax (pity they're not "Combined"!!). I haven't tested either of these yet, but will do so if you think it's of any merit.

Hi Julie,

Interesting results on the Dacom 56k. May be worth trying the LAN & Seperate Modem cards, just in case. You would only have to leave them in for up to a week each but all depends on your netbook requirements, of course.

Si,

I have no problems when I have my 56+Fax Gold Card inserted into my netBook (OS 158, build 450). My upgraded 56k+Fax 10/100 CombineIT card, however, causes the TBR.

If it is any further help, I believe my netBook to be about two years old.

Hi Si,

Same as Yan. I have a 64MB netBook with OS release 158, build 450 with a Psion CombineIT V90 56k+Fax 10/100 LAN Global PC Card. I do not suffer TBRs with the PC Card plugged in, whether it is being used or not.

But, my Psion PC Combine IT card hardware has been upgraded for netbook compatibility. My netBook is about 12 months old.

Thanks for replies. Had a diary alarm go off on Friday (machine was off with card inserted), but instead of a nice soft bells chime, I had a double triple-beep reset. mmm Nice.

I think I may try a rebuild after I source a 32mb upgrade and see if that solves the problem. Starting to get very annoying now.

Si,

I now have to remove my card to use my netBook because the TBRs are happening fairly regularly. One thing that has occurred is that they seem to happen when the netBook is using more power than normal (beaming data, just after being unplugged from the mains, sounding alarms (for you), etc. I wonder if there is a power issue in old netBooks (how old is your one?).

Interersting info Simon. Mine is about 1yr old although it is a 7series with the personality of a netbook. Must stop feeding it vitamins !!

My TBR's happen at any point but mainly when not connected using any port. Most of my apps are stored on my CF card so it could be the fact that accessing these apps are causing problems in view of the additional power needed to access the CF card. Very strange that this power drain should cause such a problem, especially on your netbook which has a limit of 750mA on the pcmcia port and built to handle the increased processor speeds. Surely the initialisation of this socket at start up should not push me over the 300mA if that IS the 7's limit and if so, why did I not get this problem with these cards with the 7 personality module/OS. Could it be that the increased speed of the processor is now causing problems for me? Or is there a problem with the power handling of the new OS? Mind you if that was the case, then more people would be having problems.

Wish Psion could help us on this.

Si
