Anyone using the Spectec SDW-820 or Socket Go E300 sd wifi cards successfully with the M3 or M5?

I went out to my local CompUsa looking for a new laptop and found this product for $70 something, so I picked one up and can attest that the card works well. Really well. Just make sure you soft reset your device after installing the drivers and BEFORE inserting the SD card. Once you get there, it's easy. The card located available connections without a single screen tap. Choose your connection and there you are.

Some issues i had with is was that since I had to remove my SD card to put this WiFi card in, all the programs that I installed to the card were unavailable. I accidentally tapped a link to a invalid program and it screwed the shortcut up. When I returned the SD memory card it didn't show the shortcut to the specific program any more. A soft reset solved that problem.

Now I just have to figure out to get Netfront to work on the M5. Pocket IE sucks..

Does anyone know if the new Socket Wi-Fi E300 SDIO card is compatible with the iQue M5? Thanks, HarborWhaler.

i have seen no confirmation that this will work with the M5. It dosen't mean it wont work, just that theres no posted info about it. I can say for sure that the Ambicom works. I have been using it for a while now and have found only a few minor issues. But most of the time when the signal is >30%, the connection is fine & stable. Drop below 30% and the utility sometimes drops the connection looking for a better one. Thus interrupting your d-loads and page loading freezing up the window. It's rare but it does happen. Like the Verizon commercial, just walk a few feet to the left and check "can you hear me now?"

This SDIO card from spectec works well. I don't know how much it costs, as I'm the second owner, but it's reliable and smaller than other SDIO WI-FI cards that I've seen (it only sticks out 1/4" from the top).

A really nice gift that I got for the holidays was a leather case from Vajacases.com. The website says it is for the older ique (3000?) but fits the M5 perfectly. Also have the Socket wifi card and it works great too. Only complaint is that it has no onboard memory so I can't sore maps on it. It also sticks out of the garmin and may break if you brush it up against a wall or something.

Added Russa GPS nav software.
It actually recognizes the GPS location on the M5. The only problem is that the current downloadable shareware version requires activation to load maps larger then 100k. I tried to pay for it but the company does not respond to my requests.
The readily available independent maker Topo & Street maps are free and can be found all over the net (see links below). A sample of a road map size is Oahu, Hawaii = 8,495 kb. (the map file extension is *.mp)

A recent convert to the M5 from a 3600, after 2.5 years of perfect use: No RMA's, one or two screeches and maybe a dozen soft resets. Wanda was indeed a trooper, but alas, she hit head, went to bed and couldn't get up in the morning. :D

I bought a 1GB Kingston Elite Pro and it works great.

I also connected my T-moble Razr via bluetooth: The phone is recognized and the phone see's Wanda II, but..now what? I hadn't thought about connectivity uses.

Anyone want to talk about this?

I see this link (http://www.aximsite.com/bluetooth/bt_guide5.htm#section13) from another thread...now that I've looked around.

In your message you mentioned that the following card works with additional configuration.
SDIO:
1) Sandisk 256mb/wifi card: takes additional configuration

I have this card and could never get the drivers to install so I gave up on the wifi option for my IQUE M5. Can you elaborate on how you got this to work?

I am at a novice level, so please explain with as much detail as possible!

Thank you!!

Just bought my M5 specifically for my motorcycle. Always wanted a PDA but could never convince myself to pay for one. When I found out I could use GPS on one I jumped at the M5 when I found it on Costco.com for $419.00.

Simply love this thing. Cant wait to get lost with this thing on the tank of my bike and then having it getting me out or there.

For SD I am using Kingston 2gb (bought just for the M5). Have also used our Lexar 256 (bought for our camera) and my Sandisc 512 (bought for my LG 8100 Verizon Phone).

Have had some issues with the Bluetooth. Took forever to connect to a friends M5.

For those using or thinking of using on their motorcycle I recommend the Autocom system for hearing GPS commands and hearing MP3's via Media Player.

Thanks for this thread.

I really appreciate the list of compatible SD memory cards in this thread but I was wondering is the speed of the memory card also a factor when making my selection?

I just got an M5 and need to purchase an SD card of about 1 gig. I know with digital cameras the speed of the memory can affect shot to shot performance. Do you think there is an effect on rerouting performance?

Just saw this thread,

Mines working fine with a "MyFlash" 2 Gig 60x SD card.
Have succesfully connected to the Internet with my Audiovox 5600. (along with sent contacts back and forth)
I have a generic Airman Bluetooth usb adapter for my PC that I've succesfully synched up the M5 with.

I've synched with an MPx220 but haven't tried to connect to the internet with it.

Hey ArcAngl, How do you mount this thing on your bike to keep it in place and pick up a signal? Have you used it yet? how well does it work in the day with the sun on it? Just curious as I've had alot of the same thoughts but not sure how well this would work on a bike.

I have not been able to find much use for Russa because of its map size limit. However, I managed to upload maps into MapSource and then to my iQue M5 using MapEdit and cGPSMapper:

http://plrecgps.pp.org.pl/bin/view/GPS/FAQUserMaps

http://www.keenpeople.com/index.php?option=articles&task=viewarticle&artid=4&Itemid=3

The maps I used are from: http://mapcenter.cgpsmapper.com/catalogue.php
I was able to load Yosemite Topo map as well National Park map, it looks great. I have not got time to go there to test the accuracy yet.

Other programs that I have loaded to my iQue M5 and found very handy:

Merriam-Webster dictionary: http://pocket-pc-software.penreader.com/Merriam-Webster.html

The Ozzie Explorer CE software works fine on my Ique M5. With this I can neatly scan to .jpeg any map I wish, georeference it and then import into my IQue M5 to navigate "over" it. I find it useful to navigate on geological maps for example

I have had nothing but great success with this SD card. I initially started with the 1GB version of the OCZ SD card, also 150X. They are both very fast and load software quite rapidly.

Amazon lists 2 batteries for M3/M4/M5: 1500mAh Eurus Internal Battery Replacement (14.95), and Dekcell Battery for Garmin iQue M3 M4 M5 (12.95).
Did anybody change already a battery in M5?
How complicated to change? Any special tools needed?

iQue M5 does not come with integrated wifi, you will need separate 3rd party sd wifi card.

Hi,
I have a Garmin iQue M5 with Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition Version 4.21.1088 (Build 15077.2.0.0) I am trying to use a Spectec SDW-821 WiFi card. I did install the software in my Garmin. But when I try to launch the WLAN program, it doesn't open up. I tried uninstalling and re installing but to no avail.

Can any one help me with this problem please? Thank you for your time.

AnswerDude

I'm sure you already did this, but have you soft reset it after installing the driver?
And which driver did you install?

TheKrazyDude
12-02-2009, 11:50 PM
Hi
Thanks for answering. I did the soft reset. Didn't work. The driver I installed are from the installation CD, it's called the SDW-821 driver. Do you want the list of all the files in that folder?

AnswerDude
12-03-2009, 12:55 AM
Try the one from its web site
http://www.spectec.com.tw/Download.htm#wlan
2nd one from top, copy it as is to a folder on the PDA, do not rename or uncompress, then browse to it from File explorer on the Garmin and click on it to install.

TheKrazyDude

I did as you instructed, installed, did a soft reset, inserted the WiFi card and tried to open the program, but it won't open, did soft reset again leaving the card in the slot and tried to open WLAN again, but it simply won't launch.

I also have the Spectec SDW-821 and used it in Garmin M4. You have to go to the manufacturer website and download a driver for PocketPC (to a PC) then transfer to M4 and install (I dont remember more details, done almost 2 yrs ago).

But - even that I kept my M4 ALWAYS plugged in electricity when not in use (it is used rarely), I recently raelized that the SDW-821 driver disappeared !! along with Skype (that I used) and iGo s/w (that I used).
I have no idea why... probably few types of memory in the M4... The GPS still works OK... I dont use it for anything else.
