Hi, I hope that someone can help me, I live in Mexico City and own a Clie peg-n710C and I just bought a new computer that has Windows XP, somehow I don't know why it doesn't let me hotsync, I don't know if I need to update my Palm OS or something, all the software is already in my computer and everything seems right but when I try to hotsync the USB is not recognized in my computer. Someone please help!

Do you have Hotsync Manager installed? If yes, is it active(Icon on your taskbar)? Right click the icon and select local USB.
Also, is your cradle hooked into a main USB port, or an hub? Some hubs will not allow a hotsync and you will have to hook up via a main USB port...

Thanks but I have already done all the things you said, the hotsync manager is already installed and in the Local USB mode, and the cradle is connected directly to the computer via a USB connection, that's why I don't understand what's happening, apparently everything is perfect but I don't know what's wrong, what I think is that maybe it's a problem with Windows XP, but everything is right with the software, the main problem is that when the hotsync begins the computer announces me that i have new hardware on, and after that it says that there's some problem with it and that it can't continue this hotsync. Please HELP!!!

sometimes XP won't install the drivers properly, so you have to install them manually:
1. open device manager
2. press hotsync on your cradle
3. the palm-device will pop-up in device-manager
4. re-install the driver for the palm-device
5. do not let windows search automatically for the new driver,
tell XP that the driver is in C:\programs\sony_handheld\usb_drivers
6. have phun!

I have found that upgrading your 710c to os 4.1 helps much with compatibility with newer software. I was having trouble syncing my 710c with OS X and upgrading to 4.1 helped it out. And now, I can sync with Linux and Evolution just fine.
The USB compatibility with OS 3.5.2 which came with 710c originally was a complete hack. Upgrading to OS 4.1 helps with standard USB compatibility. It seems that 3.5.2 had to "emulate" standard serial over USB which did not work with many applications. Now, OS 4.1 supports USB completely.
BTW, Sony support even told me to try installing 4.1 on my 710c to get it to work properly -- even though you need to dl a rom off the web to get it to work.

And where can I get the Palm Os 4.1? How much is it? or do you know where can i download it? it would be a great help.
I think that also the problem might be that the USB cable is not compatible with the new USB that is used in the windows XP, or something like that
Thanks for all your help and I hope that something will work because I am having a lot of work hotsyncing my clie and I am getting a little desperate.
I Maybe even have started thinking in selling it, somebody interested?

I had trouble when I first started with XP. Go to Sony's site and update the sync software on the PDA and there is a updated version of the Palm Desktop for Clie' for XP. Follow the online the instructions to the letter and when you are finished everything works great. Hope this helps.
