Click to See Complete Forum and Search --> : Dead battery, now no data & no backup
Hi all.
I have a Psion Series 3C here. The battery died on it. We replaced the battery but all saved data has gone and things like the calendar have gone back to 01/01/96
There is no backup of the data anywhere.
Is there anyway to recover the information that used to be on the psion?
Many thanks

Hi Ed,
Unless your data was on an SSD (Solid State Disk), I’m afraid it’s lost. Sorry.
You should have had a backup battery in your 3c (it’s a CR 1620 lithium and goes in a holder in the B drive slot). If there was one and it was OK you wouldn’t have had this problem. If you’d had your data on a Flash SSD it would probably have been safe though the 3c would still have reset itself. If you’d had your data on a RAM SSD with a good battery (CR 1620 again) it would probably have been safe. If you’d had a current backup your data would probably have been safe.
I’m sorry if this is ‘closing the stable door after the horse has bolted’ but backing up is at least advisory - and I think it essential. It is particularly advisory to backup portable/handheld machines but any machine should have a current backup.
So, although I do sympathise, there is actually nothing you can do to resolve the situation. As I said, sorry.
