Greetings everyone from New Jersey,USA

It has been a while since I have been here, but I try to keep up with all that goes on.
I have come across a Series 7 Build 756 and plan on converting it to a 7book. I have looked for the download for the OS at PsionTex but am not sure of the proper download. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Hope all is well with everyone.

Hi dfoi,

I have been out for a while so sorry for not answering before now. You are looking for the netBook (v158) image which is still available from psionteklogix but you do have to dig around to find it.

Please note that PT are not developing this OS any further but there are some very clever people on the netBook forum who are.

As such a patched version of the OS you are looking for has now been released with a few bug fixes and this can be downloaded from the following link. Look for Jonas post as this includes the link you need.

Hello Si

I appreciate the assistance. I also heard from Martin and now realize my error in the upgrade process. I came across this Series 7 just by chance and the seller had no use for it. (including the boards from Expansys) What I need two 7books for I will never know but I seem to have the same desires that many of us have......just gotta have it.

If they are both 'as new' or in very good/excellent condition and both upgraded to netBooks then I am sure someone will bite your right arm off to have one off you if you do end up deciding to sell the additional one. Having said that it is always wise having a spare !! ;)

Both units are in excellent condition, each have two batteries, all cables, user guides, docking stations and all paperwork. And for those who read these forums and wonder the answer is sorry not for sale. However I am having a problem loading the OS onto the CF card.
I have downloaded the files, unzipped them, copied the img to the CF card but it seems something is not quite right. The series7 is not recognizing the CF card in either drive. I believe one time during the procedure I received a message about a missing header. Any thoughts ?
I do thank all in advance for any assistance.

Did you format the CF card on the Psion? If not, try that. If you can't even format it, then it could have a faulty CF tray switch, or it could just have been formatted funny.

So I am afraid formatting the CF card is not an option. The other unit is currently out of state. I'll find a way to format the CF card and let you know what happens. I am wondering if my version (USA) is part of the problem.

Thank you

I erased all data on the CF card, did a new format and downloaded the OS and got the same results. Quality CF card,(SanDisk),although I doubt that's the problem. My question--has anyone here in the USA downloaded the OS and installed it with no problems? Would be of interest to know.

On what device did you format the CF card? The reason for my suggesting to do it on a Psion is that this would guarantee it was compatible. If that is not an option, you need to ensure that it is formatted as FAT16 (or FAT12), rather than FAT32 or NTFS. I believe that most digital cameras should format using FAT16...

BTW, USA should not be a problem, although you might get the wrong keyboard layout if you install a UK image! Also, make sure that the image file is called OS.IMG and is not put inside any folder (i.e. at the root of the disk).

First let me say I thank all for their thoughts and suggestions.

I found a CF that had been formatted on the other Psion, deleted all data and downloaded the OS from Martin's site. Still not recognizing the CF card. Renamed the image file, and the file is not in a folder. I will continue to try different avenues and still look forward to any help.

I have a 7 that I turned into a 7book about a year+ ago, and am in the USA. I didn't have any problems, but remember, from threads on this site, to format the CF card as FAT16.

I used a 64mb card from a camera...does card storage size make a difference? I seem to remember something about staying at 128mb or below, although I could be wrong on that...it was awhile ago.

BTW, the 7book functions fine! :)

Hello MaBell

Tried a 64 and 256 meg CF cards. Same result. I am curious, did you dowload the OS to a PC first and then to the CF card ? And if you did wnat version of Windows. If you feel uneasy about discussing it here please send a private message. I am stumped. Thank you

Try having a search on PsionPlace, because other people have also run into problems with the OS image not being recognised on their CF card. Typically they had to get a different CF card, although I think that the formatting is the actual suspect.

Good day to all

First, thank you all who offered their help and suggestions. I appreciate it and look forward to assisting others when the time comes.
Second,I now have a second 7book.
For whatever reason, any download of the OS on my PC's (Gateway,IBM,Compaq)using Windows XP Pro the files were missing opening parts of the headers. I finally used my older IBM (and I mean older) using Windows 98SE using FAT32 and copied the file to a seperate CF card reader/writer. (64meg card) And the unit looks and operates just like a Psion should.
Once again thank you for your suggestions. And now we have it on record if we ever need the information again.
