I wish to use GPSgate to feed NMEA from a BT GPS to #1 a sw such as Pathaway #2 GPSproxy (which then feeds Garmin Que on another port).

For this I need to use com 6 (output of Royaltek BT 2001). GPSGate can send the output to eg com7. This port can be shared by Pathaway and GPSproxy ( a peculiar characteristic by GPSgate). If another free port is available, they could use one port each.

GPSproxy then transforms to Garmin protocol and outputs to a virtual com port by virtue of its own virtual com port driver. The port number to be used is set by editing the registry. (Works fine with PHM Registry Editor). The problem is that for this I need a third free com port which isn't available on my Loox 720, since the rest are occupied:

Com1 Serial cable
com2 Native IR
com3 IrCOMM
com4 RC mode IrDA
com 5 BT UART
com 6 BT serial port
xom 7 GPSproxy virtual com port
com 8 BT Serial port
com 9 USB cable

Three ports are taken by Ir applications. I only care for PDA to PDA ir communication. Could I disable any IR app and free a port?

Next: What purpose dose BT UART serve? I do wish to be able to use BT phone and headphone connections.

In the worst case, I could skip serial cable at com1.

Thanks for more info on the specific comports and how to untie them from the apps that occupy them now.

By using this:

So I made com3 and com4 available to GPSgate. The changes are reversible by the same app.

I now have three nav software programs running at the same time, Fugawi (com3), Que (com0 and com7 via GPSproxy) and the Royaltek demo (com4).

I just wish I knew which one of the Ir connected ports handles pda to pda communication.

A good app to see what connects to which port is the demo version of russian navigation software Russa from www.gisrussa.com. All in english.
