Hi,
This is more of a fun topic.
Does anybody know of a typing speed tester for Blackberries? :-)
I find I type very fast on a Blackberry - partly due to my hearing impairment, I frequently use a Blackberry for email. (And now since I've upgraded to a 4meg 950, I installed WebMessenger and AvidTelnetSSH for chat applications) I am able to thumb-touchtype on a Blackberry - I can type without looking at the keyboard, and even without looking at the screen either.
I timed myself typing this email message to myself for exactly 60 seconds, and this is how much text I was able to type (325 characters)Hello this is yet another test of my typing speed on this blackberry and I was wondering how fast I really do type on this little thing. I found out that I can type about seventy words per minute on this thing if I am relaxed and concentrating on this thumbtyping. It looks like I am doing much better this time around. And
(Note: I stopped mid-sentence when my 60 seconds was up. I did several 60 second typing test trials, ranging from 300 and 350 characters which is the same thing as button presses, but this is my fastest error-free time. Divide 325 by the industry standard 5-characters-per-word, and I get about 65 words per minute! Sometimes 70 words per minute if I relaxed my spelling-mistakes standards a little bit.)
I used no autotext macros that replaced my text with longer equivalents; i.e. I actually hit the Blackberry keyboard 325 times in 1 minute.
It would be fun to have a Blackberry typing test program and end users would be able to send results to a website!
It would promote the speed superiority of thumb keyboards over alternative text input methods. (Even on devices like Treo and Palm Tungsten-W would still be better than things like Grafitti) Non-blackberry users would see those inflated WPM's and then decide to try out a thumb keyboard in their next handheld which could be a Blackberry. So a fun toy like a simple Blackberry thumb typing speed tester could drive Blackberry sales!
IMHO, RIM makes the best thumb keyboards!
I imagine some people must type about this fast on a Blackberry, but I haven't met anybody....yet....
