I have recently purchased the lifedrive. I have bee a fan of Palm for many years and purchased many different types of Palm OS devices including Sony Clie before their demise.

One of the main reasons for the Lifedrive is the ability to store and play video. However, I am very dissapointed!!

The capture is fine, and I get no stutter, but the brightness and contrast is absolutely rubbish.

In dark scenes I can not even see the actors faces! I have pushed the brightness to the maximum but it has made little difference.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there a way to push the contrast up on this device.

All reviews for this device stated how great the screen is, and I agree but did they test Video and Pictures correctly, because mine is not bright enough. Pictures are fine, but that's it!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could try getting a program that brighens up the video itself while it plays instead of just the screen contrast.

MMPlayer can do this.

I have tried this and it works well. The only problem is MMPlayer does not play MP4 video files and does not support AAC audio within the encoded stream.

Bummer!

I know. I use mpg for my movies anyway. I have an encoder that can make a 2 hr movie down to about 60-100mb in size for my pda (zire 31).

The file is this: http://files.m3ezw.co.uk/PocketDivXEncoder.exe

Try it out and see if its any good to you. I swear by it.

Sorry, don't mean to thread-jack, but I was just wondering what program you are using to view your movies? I have an HP iPAQ 2210 (I believe) and can't find anything to view divx encoded movies with it...

Thank you!

built-in viewer sux...get TCPMP (just google it). Its free and is, by far, the best movie player for pda's PPC or Palm...
