I have a NR70V/J, which comes with OS 4.1 in Japanese. I am wondering if anyone knows how I could load an English version of OS 4.1 to it?

I am not worried about any data... any suggestions will be appreciated!

Also, can my Jap OS only HotSync with a Japanese version of Palm Software Desktop?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Andrew,

You can sync your /J with an English desktop. ASCII (English) characters look fine, but DBCS (Japanese Unicode) will not display. (Japanese can be displayed on an English computer, but that is a large topic in itself.) So, if all your data and applications are in English, this will work fine.

Changing your handheld to English is a little more difficult. You will have to do it by flashing. (I have never done it.) There is material around on how to do it, but everything I have found is in Chinese. Try some of the Singapore boards, there are a lot of English posts there.

Thanks a lot Mason!
I will be doing some research and ask around...
ps. I am actually heading back to Taiwan, where I bought the PDA and see if I can again override Japanese chars with Chinese display.
Please keep me posted if you discover new means of accomplishing the goal~
I will be coming back to check out the posts in several days!
Thanks again!

Hi Andrew,

It is also possible to FLASH to Chinese, and there is material around on it. When you get to Taiwan, do some searches in Chinese, and I am sure you will find some information. My Chinese reading is very poor and I can not help much with site finding.

Good luck, Gambatte!
