Ouch. Okay, here's the deal:

My power button is damaged and I need to get behind the black plastic cover to inspect it and hopefully repair it. I got the rear silver cover off OK, but I think I need to get the top circuitry off in order to gain access to the power button, or take the black plastic cover off the front of the unit... yeah, the shiny black part which contains the speaker, mic, LEDs and stuff. I just can't figure it out!

So if anyone has pictures of a disassembley, or has taken one apart before and can give me a few pointers, then I'd appreciate it! :D

Oh, and by the way, I release you from any responsibility for damages... I do it at my own risk.. blah, blah.. you know the drill

This is not exactly what you are looking for but there is a website that sells parts for ipaqs for those of you who want to fix them on your own. I am attempting to remember the name of the site. I believe they have instructions onthe site of how to do it as well, I think they have streaming video.

Hmm, thanks for the link I'll keep it handy, but I couldn't find the part I needed. I did found out how to take it apart after playing around with it for some extended time. The plastic cover pulls out towards the north end of the device. Kind of tough to get it out, but that's how it works. And I haven't fixed my powerbutton yet, but all it requires is a dot of superglue and I'm back in business :D
