Hello, I'm new to this forum. I have a problem. My old vaio crashed (Windows 2000Pro) and I had to get a new one (Windows XP MCE). I'm trying to resync my Handera 330 via the IR, but no can get HotSync manager to connect. I've lined up the conduits and hotsync is configured to syny via IR on both ends, but handheld will not connect. Has anyone ever done this? How about backing up to the sd card (I've got an sd card reader on the laptop), but I can't get the desktop to recognize anything on the sd card. Oh, I'm using the Palm desktop app (4.0.1). I tried 3.1.1 and that didn't work either. PDA is 3.5.3. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!!
Thanks

Although you didn't specifically state it, I assume you are using a laptop. There are three things that come to mind:
1. Is the IR device enabled in BIOS? Often times it is disabled by default.
2. Since this is a new machine, I assume this is a new install of the Palm Desktop software. I remember reading somewhere that the first time you perform a Hotsync, you must use the cradle. Is this possibly the case, and have you previously synced with the cradle? If not, try that.
3. Handera does some things differently than Palm although it is based on the Palm III hardware platform. Be sure you are using the install program that came with the Handera and not some software that came with a Palm machine. Since you mentioned different versions, there could be some incompatability issue(s).
In the case of #3, I just got a Palm T|X and tried syncing with the desktop I installed for my old Handera 330. To summarize, it got ugly...real quick. I had to hard reset the Palm and it screwed up a lot of the records in Outlook. But that just might be me, I'm a bad luck magnet.
Cheers,
John

First hot sync will have to use a cradle. And since your Sony doesn't have a serial connection......your goofed. You can buy a serial to USB converter to possibly get it to work.
