Does anyone know if there is a program which keeps track on how long a internet connection through a modem has been used?

You can tell after the event with a log file. Create the path C:\Logs\Etel\ and have a look at the Etel.txt file after your next connection. It shows the time of all communication between Psion and modem.

Not sure if this is relevant but on the 7 a second log file is created called seltel.txt which abbreviates etel. I assume the 5mx does the same but not definitely sure.

Yes, Setel.txt is also created in the 5mx and Revo. That's an even easier way to see the time of the connection :)
