Hi there,
I recently installed Palm Desktop to my laptop computer, and bought an Infra Red USB adapter thinking it would be easy to sync Palm T with my laptop this way instead of buying another cradle. And who wants to lug a cradle with the laptop? But do you think I can get it to work? Nope! I tried changing the HotSync to 'IR to a PC/Handheld' but that didn't work. Just realized I haven't definately established the IR adapter is working yet.
Has anyone else tried this? Or had issues with this?

I have IR built in to my Dell laptop. I used IR sync maybe once quite a while ago for the reason you mentioned. It is INCREDIBLY slow and unstable compared to syncing by USB cable. I'd just get an inexpensive cable off E-bay like this one or similar: http://cgi.ebay.com/Palm-Tungsten-T-T2-T3-C-W-Retractable-Sync-Charge-Cable_W0QQitemZ5847588889QQcategoryZ48657QQrdZ1QQc mdZViewItem It's small and portable and will sync as well as charge when connected to USB.

As to whether your adapter is working, you should get some kind of pop up when you plug it in to the laptop which tells you if it's working. Did it come with install software? That should tell you if it's working.

Also, remember to check the Hotsync app on the computer and make sure you've selected Infrared as a sync option and also set up IR sync on the Palm.

It really is worth it to just get the sync cable though.
