I was using my IIIc normally when it froze up, so I soft reset. While it was showing the Palm icon, there was a little aqua-green bar on the bottom of the screen. It would not finish the reset, so I tried a system reset, then a hard reset. After the hard reset it seemed to work ok, but now when I try to hotsync, it either crashes in the middle of the hotsync or loses the connection while it is "cleaning up." It restores most of my files, but next time I try to hotsync I always have to select my User ID. Does anyone know what happened? is there anything I can do to fix it? So far I've tried deleting everything in the backup folder, so it doesn't need to restore anything. then I was going to try installing the apps by themselves. still wont sync. it seems strange that sometimes it crashes and sometimes it says it loses the connection. some help here?

Try lower sync speed and enabling the COM-buffer for the used sync-port on your pc (i take it you use Serial-connection) if you didn't already. You also might want to rty using the DownloadServer Wait Forever Developers Backdoor (that's more than one mouthfull):
In the hotsync screen tapp the upper-right corner of thescreen while holding the scroll-up-button, then tap OK. Now it will never time out on the next hotsync (use cancel to cancel <g>)
If that doesn't do it than ty this:
though perhaps not everybody agrees with my methods, with a IIIc i would do the last 'reset' remaining, flash the OS (with one that does work of course). It seems to me that since you did not have this problem before and it occured thanks to a piece of software on the palm, that after a hard-reset this is the only thing remaining.
besides it only takes 20 minutes or so with restoring data, so what's the fuzz (aimed to those that think flashing goes to far)
PS1 Try running Windows with 640k :D

I tried the developer's backdoor, it didn't work. then I tried changing the hotsync name and then installing the backup files manually. that worked. recently, it froze again, and when I soft reset, it had the teal green bar at the bottom again. Again, it wouldn't finish the reset, so I had to hard reset. Luckily the hotsync was fine this time. what does the bar at the bottom mean? is there any way to keep this from happening again?

AUUGGHHH!!!!!!!!!! It seems that EVERY time I soft reset, the teal green bar at the bottom comes up, it won't finish resetting, and I have to hard reset!!! Has ANYONE had this problem before? It probably is a software problem, as It seems to be fine after a hard reset until I restore my data. WHAT DOES THE STUPID BAR MEAN!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Since we all know your problem is due to a conflict with one of the programs that are downloaded, might I humbly suggest that after a hard reset, try installing one at a time the programs that are located in your backup directory.
You can do this effectively using independent install programs like Pilot Install. Install a couple of programs, try them out, then continue installing other programs until it freezes.
Hope this solves your problem.:)

acutally, I figured out what the problem was. I had two hacks that did the same thing, and one was stand alone (not managed by X-master) and they were conflicting. I just deleted the unmanaged hack, and everything's back to normal.
