I've just gotten a shiny, new 1GB SD card for Christmas, and I wanted to load as many detailed maps as possible onto it.
Given that the whole U.S. is about 1.3GB, it won't all fit on there.
So.....I would like to just select the states that I'm most likely to travel in. For instance, it's unlikely I'll ever be visiting North Dakota anytime soon.
So in MapSource, is there a way to select maps by State rather than by region? I know you can "rubber band" around the state and grab all the maps within, but it would be nice to go down the list and hit the ones I want.

Another thing to add to our wishlist. By timezone would have been nice when I was setting up my 2 1GB cards.

How much easier do you want it. All you do is click and drag the map tool, and whamo there they are all the map tiles you want. They may not be strictly by state (or time zone), but with a little (very little) diligence you can get what you want.

Easy now Last Mrk. You ever tried to get all the cities included in a timezone? What a PITA. It was quite the endeavor. By state would have been easy and you always get more than you want anyhow.

No, never have. Maybe if I could figure out why I might need that I'd understand. :)

I travel all over the US for business and needed to break down the detailed maps onto separate cards because 1GB cards were new, the biggest available yet not big enough to hold all the detailed maps. I figured I could use 2 cards and breaking the maps into 2 Time zone groups made sense to me because I always knew which time zone group I'd be in and only needed to choose between 2 cards. I broke the maps into "eastern" tz (approx 700M) and "all the rest" tz (approx 700M). Instead of trying to figure out which card the state I was going to resided on, now I only have to figure out which TZ it's in.
Now with 2GB cards avail it's a moot point. I think the speed of searching and screen redraw/refresh is much faster on the 1GB vs 2GB cards though. Less data=more speed.
