My Palm T3 died after being dropped into the surf at the beach!
I spent some time looking at my daughter's IPAQ h2210. What I really didn't like about it was the Calander (or as I call it, Datebook). I used Datebk 5 and I don't think I could cope with having to give up the functionality that it provides. I am a teacher and I have my school timetable on a timetable category. In the holidays, I turn that category off and I never get a timetable alarm. Is this possible with a PPC?

Not sure what you mean by timetable alarm, but 3rd party software like Pocket Informant or Agenda Fusion may be able to do what you need;
Pocket Informant

Agenda Fusion

On my T3, I could set a whole bunch of alarms for my school timetable, so that the alarm would ring off 5 minutes before the bell would go. These alarms were all put in the category called timetable. During the school holidays (vacation), I simply turned that category off (all the alarms were still set) and the alarms would not ring off. This is a "must have" feature for me if I were to buy a PPC instead of another Palm. Hope this clarifies what I meant. So, my question is, can I do this on a PPC?

I'm a Pocket Informant user, and I do know you can filter diary entries by category, but I'm not sure about alarms. I'll try if for you if you wish!

...or....if you use the links provided by Answer Dude, I know that Pocket Informant creators have a healthy forum, and somebody may answer your questions there.

I'm a former Palm user (I used Agendus!) and though I admire the sheer power and appearance of PI....it's just not as accesible somehow...it takes some figuring out!!!

Just tried it...does't seem to work...it would seem that Pocket Informant can filter catagories, but not the alarms..

Yes I looked at those links and even posted on their forums but havent had a response yet. I talked my daughter into letting me trial Agenda Fusion on her IPAQ. Catagories seem to be a different thing on a PPC to what I am used to on the Palm. Couldn't even find categories in AF. Played with the filters and was able to hide an entry but it still rang off. How you do PPC folks prevent an alarm from ringing off in you know you are going to be in a meeting?

I rarely use alarms, so I'm the wrong man to ask....I've only seen that kind of feature on Palms. Agendus could be set automaticaly silence alarms during me meetings...very clever! In fact it had loads of features PI hasn't got...."free time finder" being one I still miss...

Get a Lifedrive and install Adgendus Pro!!!

(Heresy!)

Got a response from WebIS Support

I'm not really aware of any way to do that on a PocketPC, sorry.

Thanks for giving us the opportunity to help!

Hardware: none - thinking about buying one -
Device Serial#: WM5

Version: Pocket Informant

Synch Software: ActiveSync 4.1

Issue:
I had a Palm T3 that I dropped in the surf at the beach. I am now thinking
of buying a PPC and running PI on it. I am a teacher and on my T3 I had
alarms ring off 5 minutes before the end of each lesson (5 lessons/day 5
days/week). These alarms were put in Datebk5 in a category called
"Timetable". During my holidays (vacation) I simply turned that category off
and never got any alarms sound or display for Timetable. I really need to
be able to do ths and so I want to know if Pocket Informant can do this.
Thanks.

Pocket Informat 5.0 can do it all!
