Hello All!
Major problem here. One of my blackberry users is trying to do a synchronizing with the wireless calendar option. When this option is set, the initial moving of calendar items to the blackberry takes about 3-4 minutes per item. Since he has 2100 items, it could take weeks. RIM says that having 2100 items is not an issue.
If I try to sync to the blackberry with just the calendar (no wireless), everything works fine.
Tried every version of the desktop software and upgraded the handheld to every versions, no luck.
Tried it on a different machine with a brand new profile. Same problem.
No else has a problem just this one user.
Any ideas would be great.
Thanks.

I assume since you are attempting a wireless cal sync that you have BES v2.1 or higher running.
In my experience 2000+ Cal items is way too much for the old devices especially if he has contacts, tasks or memos too. Check the available memory under status before going to far further. If he's at 300K or less you may have some problems. You can set the sync settings to delete items that occur in the past and only load x number of weeks into the future.
As for the slow desktop sync: Are they syncing with multiple PC's? The PC keeps a local record of the data you sync with so the process speeds up.

Hi!
When we do the initial sync, we are only syncing the calendar on an empty blackberry, so there is tons of room.
Also, I am syncing with only one pc.
Keep the ideas coming.
Thanks!

How much memory do you have left when you complete the sync?

I can't actually do a wireless sync because of it freezing. But when I do a regular calendar (non-wireless) sync, I have just over 1 meg free.

This should not have anything to do with the memory on the BlackBerry. There are several things which can cause a very slow initial sync with wireless calendar
First ensure that you are not using a local copy of Outlook calendar.
second make sure that there are no delegates added to the calendar during the initial sync, you can readd them later.
thirdly you could try removing the user from the BES then readding them, this seems to help with ICSSync folder corruption.
Fourth, check to make sure that there are no software programs which scan the com port it is connected to, this can cause communication slowness.

I just removed the blackberry from the BES server and re-added it. Everything worked great. Thanks a bunch! Such a simple solution.
Cheers!

for future reference:
4 things that will cause a very slow initial load
1) remove delegates to your calendar for first sync
2) you CANNOT user a local calendar copy
3) you cannot have more then 5000 entries
4) remove user from BES, wipe database, readd (also try deleting that user's ICSSync folder)
5) switch to normal sync, then sync, then switch back to wireless sync and sync
