Hi

I have been trying for a while now to get my 7book connected to the wifi network at my uni. I have now got it to the stage where it connects to the uni network no bother in netstatRF, and brings up the network settings (ip address etc)

Normally when I connect on my laptop, it automatically redirects me to a secure site, opening up a pop up window so I can log in with my user name/pass.

However, whenver I try this on the psion, it still brings up a 'fatal error 298', along with the full url it is trying to connect to.

Here are my wifi settings:

Wifi Card: buffalo
Config method: DHCP
Hostname: blank
Device: Lucent WaveLAN/ Orinoco Card
WaveLAN network name: Wifi
AP density: high
Transmit rate: 5.5mps
Fixed&Medium Reservation are unchecked
Encryption is off.

I have disabled all the SSL stuff in opera (enabling it makes no difference)

The login is via a HTTPS url. I'm wondering whether opera can't bring up the pop up window, or whether it's a security issue that opera doesn't support?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Cara

Hi

Having spent some time looking at other peoples posts, it seems this is a problem with HTTPS.

I'm going to try installing grand rapid and pasting the opera ini file someone posted.

Some people have suggested using opera v5.13- does anyone have a .sis file for this and will it install over the 5.14 I have at the moment?

Would it help if I could past a certificate or something into opera? If so, how can I get hold of it when I am connecting with my laptop?

Is there anything else someone can recommend?

I'm not very clued into all this stuff but hopefully someone will be able to help.

If it's any help Cara, my bank uses https:// and I have no problem logging in or doing the banking. However it doesn't have a pop up it just goes straight into the banking site.
Perhaps your original idea that it is the pop-up that is preventing you getting in any further?

Hi

Thanks for your reply conkers. unfortunately, I don't think its as simple as that. I've installed the grand rapid browser on the 7book now, and I'm still having no luck.

A couple of things to update though:

When I fill in the uni URL in Grandrapid I get a 'page cannot be displayed' error after a while. When I fill in the full login URL (The one that opera was giving me under the fatal error 298)

I won't post the actual url here but this is an example one (with different numbers for the IP addresses obviously)

https://123.456.7.8/login.pl?action=paint;source=78.9.10.112;destinati on=http...(uni website)

I get the following message: 'Could not make a connection to server or proxy'

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Just thought Cara, I used to get that message ('Could not make a connection to server or proxy) when I tried to connect to my home network with my 7Book. I ended up changing the DHCP to Manual, then manually setting an IP address for my network which worked.
If you could make up an IP number using the Uni's IP address its 255 - 1 chance that someone else is using it at that time.
Worth a try?
