I have an E115 which for one reason or another has been left in my garage for probably a year. I used it for about a month...making it 13 months old.

I have just found it and want to start it up but get nothing.

In the cradle the charge light goes on I can leave it there for ages and as soon as I lift it the light goes out.

Is this a dead battery?

I know it sounds obvious but I dont want to go to the expense of buying a new one in case it is something more terminal.

Thanks

Did you also replace the backup battery? I think that battery is required for the unit to start up even if the main battery is charged. After a year of the main battery not being charged, that backup battery will be dead, for sure.

The back-up battery is a new one, I guess it must be pretty major if it wont start up even on AC.

Well, you might try opening the case, looking to see if any insects have gotten in during the "garage" year. Any debris may be shorting out something.

But, I'm not optimistic...

BTW, I think the light is supposed to go out when out of the cradle. But it should turn green when in the cradle and the battery is charged. You may have driven the battery totally flat. Maybe someone knows how to breathe life back into that battery. You might try pocketpcpasion.com for an expert.

ArtyCarl,
I had just went through this .. it has to be the main battery.. if these (main batteries) go dead for some time I think (not completely sure) they cause a dead short in the units and the ac power will not work... mine was a casio e-125 that would not power up any way that I tried.. I had luckly found one on e-bay and the seller said not dead on arrival and he was right..I had also replaced the back-up battery as well.. hope this helps..

Hi Arty,

I have the same exact problem (and same predicament as you - left mine in the closet for about a year :))

How much are those batteries anyhow?

Remove the battery and clean the poles and the contacts in your machine, use a pencil eraser. After year in such an environment your contacts may have oxydised (or something like that) and prevent recharging.

Sorry for my poor english

Try the following.

Remove both batteries.

Install the main battery. DO NOT attempt to turn on the device.

Connect the charger/AC adapter the green light should come on.

Leave it on the charger overnight. In the morning the green light should be off. If it is still on the device and/ or battery are very definitely defective.

Install the backup battery. Set the switch to center position. Fire up the device. It should initialise & should be ready to go.

To achieve maximum capacity may take a few cycles of charge & discharge.

Hope this helps.

This thread is a bit old, but I am having this issue atm. My E115 wont start up and I have replaced the backup battery. I am trying the idea of recharging it overnight without the backup battery in it now. I am posting this hoping to see if anyone has tried this method and had it work for them or maybe find out what they did to get their E115 or similar device to turn back on. With the backup battery in the green light goes out after on a few minutes of charging. Any feedback woudl be greatly appreciated.

Sadly, none of the suggestions ever worked for me. I ended up buying another battery on eBay and that fixed it up.

Since then, I've ditched the E-115 and picked up an iPAQ 5455. Thing kicks ass :)

When the batt. of this type is left dead it will short inside. That keeps your green light on and not letting the unit start even in the charger. If you replace the main batt. your E-115 will live again.

Thanks alot for the responses. Now I just need to decide if I want to shell out the $40 to buy a battery or trash it and buy a T3...
