I was wondering if it's possible to change your username and roll-over your posts and statuses and such to the new name.

Reasons: When (soon) I no longer am an m500 user, but an SJ20 user.

If you can, someone. I would like my new name to be CPU Cow (to match my avatar).

If at all possible...

THANKS!

I tend to like keeping a forum tidy. Once I have gotten necessary information from a thread of mine, I let it sit for a couple of days (so others can check it out), then delete it.

Once deleted, it is no longer counted as a "post" in my post count...that is, mine has gone down.

I would like to eventually be a Member, rather than a Junior Member, so would that be possible with my style in the forum? Am I not supposed to delete my posts?

THANKS!

It's NOT a good idea to routinely delete posts, particularly when other people have responded to you - it leaves a thread which no longer makes sense, and is unfair to other users if it means that we have to delete their posts as well. Thus, if you do delete your own posts, you have to live with the reduction in post count.

Also, please bear in mind that any topic you raise may very likely be of help to those who come later to the forum - very few queries are specific to just one person! One of the main benefits of a forum such as this is the building of a knowledge base to which all members can refer.

As for changing username, as far as I know this is not normally permitted - your ID (accompanied by your post count) is how people know and remember you. It's not a great idea to change it every time you get a new machine!

Since you've only been registered here for 5 days in any case, I suggest that you re-register with a new ID that you are prepared to stick with long-term, then build up your reputation and post count from there. :)

Maybe I worded the bit about the deleting wrong...I meant deleting threads that I start...I leave my posts in threads.

Ok, I'll change my name. I'll keep a note of my former name in my signature for a bit.

Thanks...

New Area:

It won't let me re-register! It says that I've already registered as m500 user, and asks me if I forgot my password...HELP?!?!

   As Julie says, you should not delete threads that you have initiated and which other members have contributed to. If everybody did this after getting the answer they wanted, there would be almost no topics for anyone else to read.

As far as registering with a new name is concerned, did you "log out" first or were you still logged in with your existing membership when you tried to register again?

In the meantime, you might also like to spell "inconvenience" correctly in your signature :)

I have deleted my signature.

I was logged out. I know this because:

I logged out before doing that
It asked me if I forgot my password

I think that Julie is right, in that I can't register under the same email twice.

I think that Julie is right, in that I can't register under the same email twice. That's possible. I have two registrations but the email address used is also different.

Kevin

I have now made a request for your m500 User ID to be deleted, so that you can start again with a new account, then you should be able to use the same e-mail address.

I will let you know the response.
