Does anyone know where to get a metal case for the dell axim x5? I have found plastic ones but, not metal ones.

You might check for cases for Ipaq. I think the Axim is about the same size.

I know it won't fit in my "old" Handspring case.

I saw metal cases at Comp USA over the weekend. I don't know if Best Buy has them. Staples has cases but I don't remember seeing metal.

The included case does not have a belt loop / clip. (how I carried my Handspring)

Can any one of the five, who have received theirs, confirm this use of the iPaq case?

I held mine up next to a Ipaq and very close in size. Ipaq is more rounded at bottom.

I bought an OP/TECH USA Soft Pouch at Fry's yesterday. $14.99.
from the package: www.optechusa.com. I have not verified. I bought PDA/CAM MACRO which is 3.75 x 5.25 x 1.0 inches. Best combination of fit and easy removal.

It has a belt clip. (the biggest feature I wanted) This is similar to the Body Glove line of products (I did not see anything is stock that would fit at the time) and half the price. THIN neoprene (wet suit material, fabric both sides, colors are available. I bought black)

I had a Targus for my Handspring. Hard Leather. Liked the case but would not fit the AXIM.

Neither case would be much protection if dropped.

I bought mine for the Belt Clip

I bought a Sportsuite III from Marware.com and it fits great. It's a soft case but it has a hard plastic sheet sewn in to protect the screen. It has a belt clip too which is nice.

Sounds a lot like the one inexco got but mine was 19.95+shipping

So the Op/Tech seems to be working out nicely? I think i'm going to go ahead and order that from Outpost.com. Does it fit nicely in your pocket? thats one thing thats important cause the case it came with makes that kind of hard

The Op-Tech case is working for me. I use the belt clip.

I checked in both Coat side and Breast pockets. Side pocket is much better than the included case. I never tried the included case in the Breast pocket. I think the breast pocket worked best but there is still more of a "bulge" there than a tailor (or my wife) would like.

EB cases offers three cases that fit the Dell Axim. One is a leather pouch with a nice clip (like the ultra clip with Vaja cases). The other two are wallet like made of some synthetic.

I use the Targus leather universal pda case. It fits the Axim fine.

Target sells a Bodyglove cases (flipper design) that works well with the Axim. It is cheap--around $19 or $20.

The Fellowes case is running for $7.99 special at Best Buy this week. $18 with a $10 rebate, you can even order online and get free shipping and no sales tax. I ordered the targus one and the Fellowes to see which one i like best. You can then return it to your best buy store instead of mailing back

regarding the bodyglove one.... how is the fold back design? does it get awkward to use when holding the pda? the case itself looks pretty cool.

The bodyglove case design works pretty well. I do like the flip back design. The one problem I can see is that heavier items (like flash modems) may fall out of the little pocket if you are not careful.

Just got the Bodyglove case this evening and it works great, good nice fit and allows me to zip it while keeping my headphones in. I agree if I get a wi-fi cf card, I may have to figure how to best store it cause i don't think i'll be able to leave it in with the case closed.

I hope those velcro things don't mess up the paint on the back of the Axim.

I got the first Dell Brand case in today for the Axim at the office. The one on the Dell web site. It's ***VERY*** good, with no stupid velcro stuff to hold the Axim in-place. There's a wrap-around thing that holds the bottom of the PDA in-place. Very easy to insert and remove...but I couldn't get my Axim to fall out even with some pretty vigourous shaking up-side-down. Unfortunately, the case was for someone else, (President of the company), but I will be ordering one immediately after my experience today. It blows away several of the cases mentioned above that I've gone to local stores to try out.

Cheers,
John

I'm curious...does the dell case have any sort of media storage pockets, etc.? Also, does it have a rigid panel built in to protect the screen? How is the quality of the leather? Thanks in advance for the info. P.S. Also, to anybody out there, has anyone used the dell pocket pc keyboard? I want to know if it is similar to the targus fold-up. Thanks.

Yes...it's got some slots for extra memory inside of it, as well as CC and Business card slots. Quality *appears* to be excellent, with very soft, slightly padded leather on the outside, and a groovy little brushed-nickel finished zipper-pull thing. I don't recall of the top of my head if there was a built in protector for the face.

The biggest complaint I've heard about it so far is from the two Palm users in my office that just upgraded to the Axim. They are griping a lot about the size of both the Axim and this nice case. For me, that's not an issue.

I've gone to Best Buy, Good Guys, WalMart and CompUSA, and so far none of the PDA cases I've looked at hold a candle to the Dell branded case...especially in the same price range.

Thanks for the info & pic. I'd also like to know if the bracket-like restraint piece is made of plastic or leather or ??? it's hard to tell from the small image. Thanks.

The bracket thing you're talking about is made out of leather and that stretchy material that I'm currently having a complete brain-fade and can't remember what it's called. Best I can tell...no plastic.

Here's another vote for the Dell case. It just arrived today and it fits the Axim like a glove. There's no way it will fall out, yet it is easy to remove for synching in the cradle (there is an opening on the bottom for using the cable). There is a pocket, three credit card slots, and two pouches for SD cards. Unless you need something with a belt clip, this is a perfect case, functional and stylish.

Does anyone know if there is an aluminum case that fits the Axim, Rhinoskin doesn't have any plans for making one.

Thanks.
