I'm looking to buy my first PDA, not that I really need one, but I'd like to be able to read books on them. Ebooks seem to come in pdf, lit, and just plain txt format. Lit requires a reader and seems to be the best format from what I see. Do they all work well on the 51V? Can you really read a book that way?

I'm a programmer and one of the things I want to do is learn to program these; I know DotNet so it should be pretty easy to pick up. Has anyone done that? It must have WM5 since that's the direction these things are going.

Are the games good? If I'm going to spend $300+ then I do want decent games. I'm not expecting XBOX360 but better than my phone (Motorola V551 - sort of the same name).

I like the 640*480 but oddly I've browsed the forum and see that there are issues. Does the fix work? (allowing unsigned apps I think).

Should I get it over an HP? All opinions appreciated.

There's also pdf reader for pocketpc. As for readability, Windows Mobile comes with ClearType font which may make it easier to read for some, you can also turn it off if you don't like it. You can also read in both portrait and landscape mode. I don't think it's any worse than reading on desktop.

Here's a good place to start for developing ;

VGA axim is probably the best model for game because it comes with 3d graphics processor. I think there are a few vga 3d games that comes with it.

There're 3rd party softwares and tweaks that will let you utilize vga resolution more.
Axim x51v is a good value in term of price and features, iPAQ still does not have WM 5.0 vga model available. More review on this model;
