I’ve had my iQue 3600 for one week now and for the first three days, it worked flawlessly. I was able to acquire satellites, create routes and the voice guidance would direct me right away. Well, one day, I flicked the LOCK switch on the SD (1 Gig PNY) card to the ON position and that’s when everything went downhill. Now, the GPS does not recognize the any upcoming streets nor will it provide voice guidance. I have switched the LOCK switch back to the OFF position and I still have this problem of no voice guidance. I do see the detail maps which are loaded on the SD card and I do see my live positioning as I drive. However, once a route has been calculated, it would not guide me visually (on-screen turn-by-turn), nor will it guide me vocally. I have found out that by taking the SD card out while the unit is still on and then putting the SD card back in will fix this problem and the voice guidance as well as on-screen turns works fine.

Can somebody please help me out….is there something in the preferences/settings that I fiddled around with that caused this? It is annoying to always have to “reset” the SD card by taking it out then back in to make the unit work as it is supposed to. Somehow I feel that the unit is not picking up the SD card if I don’t “reset” it, however, before the “reset” I’m able to see the detail maps and POI which are all loaded on the SD card!?!

Thanks for any help.

EDIT: Additional Information

In Preferences, under Guidance my settings are:
Off-Route Recalculation: Automatic - Announced
Turn Preview: Both
Voice Prompt: Guidance and Status
Attention Tone is checked

UPDATE: Problem found and solved.

The problem was with the JPEG viewer (freeware) I downloaded and installed in my PDA. I deleted the viewer and re-loaded all other apps and now the voice guidance and turn-by-turn prompts are back.

So, I guess I learned my lesson.....beware of freeware!

Can you share with us which viewer it was?

I will have a 3600 shortly. I am not sure what it has for a image viewer and, if I need to get one, would rather not DL the same one you had!

Thanks

It was JPEGView 1.1.1 that didn't work for me. Well, the actual application did work, but it seemed to interfere with the GPS function. I did a search before I downloaded it and there were several members here that said it worked fine with the iQue. Don't know why it didn't work for me.

I just downloaded JPGview 3.1 by Claus Fenske (freeware also) and I'm gonna try it out tonight. I hope this one works!!

Yup, JPGview 3.1 works fine and all GPS functionality is retained. However, there are some bugs within the application. Oh well....I may eventually give in and buy one.

Betty locked up on me. I installed JPGview. Made a folder on my 256 SD card. I dragged and dropped thumbnails into the folder. Installed the card brought up the viewer and tried to run som photos. Betty froze up and went black. I tried a soft reset, A hard reset and a warm reset all to no avail. I now have her on the charger but no light. Please help if you can
Thanks

Here is the next day. Second quote:
I tried charging all night and reset to no avail. called garmin tech per usual they were great but could not wake Betty up. They are going to RMA it, they are paying for next day air and going to send back a replacement over night. Fantastic customer service!!!!!!!!! Strange side note: I contacted Invisiable Shield to find out how to remove the shield. The operator told me to lift the corner and peal slowly. To my surprise it lifted right up and came off easly. I tried that with the ******* shield to no avail in the past. When I pulled it off Betty came alive but could not shut her off. I tried the IPGview again and it locked up again. The screen went dark just as before. She will pe picked up this AM Tech could not figure it out, they did not think it was the program. I am not sure I want to try this program when I get my new Q. Oh by the way Invisi Shield is sending me a replacement right away. Another great company
Thanks Thoge for your concern!!!!

Frank
Note: I am expecting the replacement today.
Frank :)

orangerider, thanks for sharing your experience with us regarding JPGview. Last Friday I loaded 5 pics onto my SD card and I was able to see the pics on my iQue using JPGview. But this morning....all the pics say that there's an error decoding the image. Don't know what that is all about?!? The pics won't load. Anyways, I'm gonna delete this off my machine since it's not so stable. Thanks for the heads-up!

I'm going to post here before I start an entire new topic on this; tonight I came across something similar, and, of course, I now need some help. I have had my unit for over two years now, and I have had no issues with it up until tonight. While I have not lost the turn-by-turn, I HAVE completely lost voice guidance. I have not installed anything on it, nor have I even performed a HotSync in months. From what I can tell, all my sound options are what they should be.

Reading the posts in this thread, perhaps it has something to do with JPGview. However, to be honest, I have no clue what that is. I've never viewed pictures on my unit, and I do not even think that program is installed. Would anyone be willing to give me a step-by-step to see if it is, in fact, on there, and, if so, how to go about updating it or deleting it?

Again, beyond voice guidance, everything is working as it should.

Thanks for any and all assistance! It is hugely appreciated.
