I hate coming on a forum and my very first post is asking for help… but… at least it isn’t a spam.
I have an Axim x50v and have only used it as a phone book. I purchased an inexpensive GPS receiver that plugs into the CF slot. I was expecting that when I plugged it in I would see the ‘new device found’ screen and be prompted on loading the drivers. Well, to my surprise that did not happen and I need some help on how loading this information into the pocket pc works.
The Axim is running windows mobile 2003 se.
Thanks for the help.

What gps are you trying to use? Generally you will need to install driver and software for pocketpc. Check the cd that comes with the gps or download them from maufacturer website. I'm assuming that you already installed activesync on the desktop, typically just run the installer from the cd on the desktop and follow instruction.

That is what I also expected... and yet, here I am asking for help.
The GPS is kinda no name receiver,

the software disk has no autoload files. I am stuck.

Unfortunately without the name, i can't help much, look for setup.exe on the cd and try running that.

Thanks for your help. There is no .exe file on the cd. That is why I am here.
Let me try asking for help a different way;
The above is what I was expecting to be the way to load device information onto a pocket pc. That hasn’t been the case. The manual, in a round about way, says to start the GPS software program and that will load the device information. Now, no GPS software came with the receiver so that sounds a little funny… but, maybe that is how this works?
The receiver is an xtrac 2 model FGPCFCD01

What files (name and extension) are on the cd?

There are 3 folders:
Document, Driver98XP, Tool
Inside of the TOOL folder is a ‘Pockets PC 2003’ folder. Inside that folder are four additional folders ARM, MIPS, SH3, x86. Inside each of those folders is a zip file MrGPSViewer. When I unzipped the file there are 5 files. The extensions are just ‘files’ .000 .001 .002 .003 .999
Now that I am typing this is kinda seems like I should find the actual ‘MrGPSViewer’ program and load that into the pocket pc... what do you think?
Again, thank you for your time and help.

Inside the ARM folder, copy MrGPSViewer.CAB file as is to a folder on your axim, do NOT unzip it or rename it. It's not a zip file but an installer for pocketpc. After you copy the file, open file explorer on the axim, browse to the location of the file and click it to install. Then soft-reset the axim, insert the card and open the program that it just installed.

It's working!
I was stuck with the 'zip' file thing. Your information did the trick. Thank you.

Sorry... not yet. I bought it for golf and since I got it working I haven't been able to get out and play. I will know more in a couple of weeks and will be sure to give you an update.

I just bought the same CF GPS and though I seem to have gotten the drivers loaded, after 45 minutes, it doesn't seem to want to do its ALMANAC fill, if you will.
Did you get yours to work and if so, how?
Thanks!!!

Hi,
I realize this thread is a bit old but I have a similar CF GPS which I recently purchased and I can't for the life of me work out why there seems to be no ALMANAC data loaded in the GPS. As a result, while I can detect the satellites after a while, I cannot 'activate' the GPS and it will not speak to any of my map reading software. I can't change my default location as well !
Hope someone can help me out. I'm at my wits end !
Thanks

It's the same one as above the FGPCFCD01 CF-Card GPS
and as far as i can see the software with the card DOES Not have a driver.
it has a utility to check the card is working but thats it !!!
it does have a driver for Win98 and XP but not for the Pocket PC?
i might have posted this in the wrong thread as my PDA is a ACER N50 and not a Dell:eek:

I have the same PDA as you GoFlyers (Ftech xtrac 2 model FGPCFCD01) but on my CD there were no PDA drivers. I've gone to Ftech's site and they do not have the drivers either. I was hoping you might right read this post or anyone else that has this GPS unit and be willing to send me the drivers for Win mobile 2003 SE.
Thank you.
