I am having a problem that on trying to switch on there is a beep than the screen starts as if I have done a hard re-set, ie all data is lost.
Restore from PC all is fine except loss of data since last backup.
Seems to work fine for about a week. With frequent backups I lose little data, but a failure away from home is a pain.
Also, though set in power settings, machine does not shut down when closed.
I suspect hardware fault, but though I would ask before sending it for repair.

I assume you've checked/replaced all batteries, cleaned the contacts etc? I once had a similar problem with my S5 - although the backup battery was showing "good" it must have been faulty, or not contacting properly. Replacing that solved the problem.
Just a thought.

Thanks for the reply.
I had tried changing batteries, but had forgotten about checking the contacts. I'll try that and see what happens, as when it re-boots power on both sets of batteries is ok.

All seeemd fine for a bit then serious deterioration with display. It appears problem is with the screen, rather than power.
Today I tried switching on, blank screen but keyed in password as usual. Connected to PC which was able to communicate with series 5 ok and I was able to transfer out files.
Screed occasionally flashes random lines/patches of black, particularly on switching on.
Unless someone knows of a simple cure it looks like its back to Psion for repair.
Yes, I'm afraid that you've got the well-known screen cable failure - a repair is unfortunately your only option :(
