My 3 yr old got a hold of my NR70 from it's cradle, and "overtwisted" the screen... it quit "flipping" when used in tablet mode.
I'ts a refurb I bought on E-bay, and out of warranty. So I opened it up and took a look. There is a small switch that a "feeler" on the hinge pushes. That switch is broken. Since I use it in tablet mode most of the time, I used a little tinfoil to "fix" the switch so it's always "flipped" for tablet mode.
Anyone know where I can get the part, or a broken NR to steal the switch from?
(It's hard to play games... Screen is upside down in clamshell mode for pushin' the buttons...)

sorry bout your clie and sorry but i dont know of anywhere to get a part. But to make game playing easier until you fix your unit you could try something. when your clie is in tablet mode open the clam shell part out about 45 to 90 degrees but dont flip the screen. The put your hands through underneath the screen and push buttons from there. It puts the buttons on right side and the screen wont be up side down. Hope this helps your problem some.

I have been doing repairs on Clies and gathered a bunch of parts. Have the parts but haven't replaced one yet. It should not be too difficult since it is 2 spot solder connections and a screw. If you want a switch let me know at:

Great post you guys. I got one of my older and retired clie to work.Does any one know what causes the vertical lines at the edge of the screen and how it can be fixed ?(nr 70)
thanks

What i have found so far is the vertical lines are usually caused by a separation of the flat wiring attached to the back of the LCD itself. I have been able to stop the lines from showing by pushing on the wiring against the metal connection. But, i have not figured out how to fix it without replacing the LCD. I have tried several solutions and each failed. It is sometimes cheaper to replace the entire LCD than the labor to try to fix the connection.
Where would i send it or where can i get one(lcd)

Your 2 options are to send it to Sony or to me. The LCD should be replaced and i can do it for $110 + shipping. You would have to call up Sony to find out how much and how long it would take (which they generally can not estimate). The last time i talked to them it was $158 to fix one and i am not sure that included the cost of the LCD. I can turn it around generally in 2 or 3 days. If you are interested, email me at ewb49@go.com to work out logistics.
