I currently own an Ipaq 1900 seris its 3 yrs old but in great condition; however, I will be starting medical school in the fall. I am wanting to upgrade my pda to most recent. The more I look at the Dell Axim 51v the more appealing it is. I was just wondering will there be any new releases from dell in the coming months. Because I am debating on waiting until the summer or now. I am in no hurry, but I do want to get the best deal for my money.

Thank You

As far as i know there is no new regular pda model coming from either Dell or HP any time soon. Newer models from HP and other manufacturers are high-end more expensive and larger pda/phone combination.

Just upgrade from my 3 year old Axim 5 to the new X51V and for the most part very satisfied.

In the past 5+ years I've gone from the Casio E100 to E105, then to the iPaq 3970, and 2 weeks ago to the X51v. The iPaq was an awesome machine and I sold it to one of my friends... and you know that means I _really_ liked that unit. The Axim jumps into another dimension. It's smaller, more powerful, better featured, and just beautiful.

I have a 2 Gig CF in it on which I intend to load programs/games/movies(?) and I should have my new SD GPS tomorrow or Thursday. The fact that this _smaller_ unit accepts both SD and CF cards is one of the big points that helped me make my decision.

There was one rumor that has been bouncing around several forums about Dell getting out of the PDA biz and I honestly think that's bunk. When you have the highest rated PDA on the market, you don't walk away from it. Would Apple walk away from the iPod because there are a few bugs or a few competitors? This PDA is on the bleedin'edge... so there's bound to be a few issues. Dell has already released six (6) ROM upgrades, so doesn't that tell you they are on the case?

If you want a very stable, albeit larger system... you might want to look at the iPaq 5555 series. It's like the Razr phone or the Nano... if you want tomorrow today... get the X51v :) What more can I say?
