Hi...

In an iPaq 3970 series PDA running WM2003, is there a memory size limitation for either SD cards in the slot or CF cards using a sleeve? There are some new files over at HP's web site that deal with SD cards not being read and some other issues, but I was wondering if you _can't_ use a SD/CF memory card larger than say... 512M?

I've been googling this for 20 minutes and still can't find a straight answer :(.

Thanks in advance for the help :).

There is no limit. You just have to format it properly (FAT32) to use large capacity card.

The "Dude" does it again!!!

It's really amazing because I tried google for 20 minutes and could not get an answer that simple and conclusive.

Had to add another comment. My buddy bought a brand-new SanDisk 1Gig SD card over at Staples last night. We tried formatting it as both FAT32 and FAT, and both ways it read fine in my Axim, but while the iPaq acknowledged that a card was inserted (box comes up with question do you want to format it?), there's no recognition of it when you click on the System/Memory Icon where you'd normally see the 968.5 or whatever.

Neither of us has a smaller SD card to try out. But is it possible that the iPaq 3970 using WM2003 can't recognize a larger card?

Answer Dude,

I beg to differ with your statement that there is no limit on 4700 memory card.

I just got a 4 gig SD card, formated to FAT 32 and all the 4700 sees is 2 gig.

Any idea's?

Are you using Transcend 4gb sd card? The issue is not whethere ipaq can use 4gb sd card, it can, but some card within a specific brand such as Transcend will not work properly in some ppc. I don't know why, perhaps quality control issue. Try format it with FAT16 with two 2gb partition instead. Here're threads from other board with users who use 4gb successfully with their ipaq and the ones with problems;

No, it is the A-DATA 4 gig @200X. In my computer it shows as 4 gig, in the iPAQ 4705 its 2 gig formatted in Fat 32 standard.

Did you ever have one of those days when your eyes see one thing and the brain registered something else?
Well, that happened to me. The card worked from the get go. :rolleyes:
