Active Sync problem

I have a compaq ipaq 3850... 2-3 year old model... today I bought an hp sync wire that connects to the usb port... it works... it charges... it's alive...

I downloaded Active Synch 3.8 cause I'm running on Windows 98... after intalling drivers and such it connects with ActiveSync momentarilly when I turn it on... it registers when it was last connected on the ipaq but immediately disconnects...

so basically I can't upload anything...

any ideas?

Is this because of the hp to compaq wire? The computer recognizes there's a mobile device attached... and it connects momentarilly...

any help would be appreciated thanks

restarting, uninstalling... reinstalling.... Ahhhhh lol

Are you running firewall or security software on the desktop? And are you connecting to usb hub or directly to the desktop? And here are troubleshooting guide that may give you more ideas.
