I am looking closely at The Dell Axim X51v considering buying it. Can anyone tell me what the wi-fi is like on these things?? Perhaps obvious, but can it easily hook up to my home wireless internet connection for real time downloads like I currently use my VAIO laptop for?? Does it use internet explorer? and is it "proper" internet and not some weird mobile version???
Cheers

It can connect to your home wifi. I don't know what your would consider easy but you can see the steps here

It does come with Pocket Internet Explorer which has less features than desktop version and you'll have to scroll around a litte. But there are 3rd party commercial browsers that provide more features. Big names like Opera and Firefox have early versions of browser for Windows Mobile plateform.

cheers, sorry im a complete beginner on pdas... what is the VGA add-on/VGA??? Someone recommended this add on for me.
Also I deal in stocks and shares in my spare time and therefore would need real time internet to view the streaming city index live update site..(HTML i pressume..) do you think the internet capabilities on this device would be suitable?? or fast enough?

VGA and QVGA refer to screen resolution. Axim x51v and x50v have VGA 640 x 480 resolution display, while standard QVGA Pocket PCs have QVGA (quarter VGA) 240 x 320 resolution displays. you'll see more on screen with VGA.
And VGA add-on is probably this VGA cable that lets you connevt the axim to monitor;

The speed of the internet will depended on what type of internet connection you have and where you are.

well i twill be mostly used on my wireless interent connection at home - which is fast broadband (my desktop and laptop use it).. Do you know if the streaming share index site will work on the pda as that is what ill mostly be using it for - checking live share prices without having to be tied to my desk.. :)

That depends on what type of site it is. Perhaps if you post the site address, other users with the same setup can check it out for you. There are also a few stocks monitor softwares available for ppc.

thanks - that software might be a help... Unfortunatley the only way of seeing the live spread bet page of City Index is in your own account, but obviously i cant give out my details!!
Basically it gives you up to date details of the stock market - figures which are updated every couple of seconds - thats the essential thing, to get a Live feed, I dont see why this wouldnt work on a pda, as long at it supports "ordinary internet" ie HTML (I think!) and not some Wap thing or weird pda mobile internet,....it it would connect to my wireless network like my laptop does and displays full web pages on the screen it should be ok i think, as long as the screen supports it
