In deciding what handheld you should get, you should think of what your needs are and what kind of accessories you want to add later on.

If you want to add a modem or a wireless lan card, you should probably go with the iPAQ because most of these cards come in the form of compact flash cards. The Sony PDAs can only use Memory Stick. If you need to use a Memory Stick card, there is a new expansion pack with both Memory Stick and CF slots built in. You can get more information at http://www.pitech.com .

If you want something small and with a long time between battery charges, the Sony is probably what you want.

The software functions on the Sony and the iPAQ are similar. Both have multimedia functions built in. They are both capable of opening and editing Microsoft Office documents. However, the iPAQ has Pocket Office programed into the ROM, while the Sony requires a third party application to be installed. The preinstalled version makes it easier to recover from hard resets.

You need to also consider how much memory you need, along with the price of memory cards. The iPAQ comes with 64MB RAM vs. 16MB on the Sony. Also, Memory Sticks cost more than CF cards.

Based on the above information, you should be able to make an informed decision. Hope this helps.
