Ok, I have an hx4700 with th edouble RAM upgrade. I want to overclock the processor, but cooling will be an issue since the only cooling method the stock 4700 has is heat dispersal throughout the unit, and one tiny hole in the back that allows air exchange. Well, not being one to leave a good thing alone, I have an idea. I want to use some sort of red hot needle to drill small holes into the back of the case, right over the processor. Then, over those holes, I will attach a tiny cooling fan, battery powered. My questions are twofold: how does that idea sound, and should the fan suck or blow?

talk about extreme OC-ing
next you will want a micro-pump and micro-tubing to try out some liquid cooling, mount a thermal monitor that connects to the serial port and track your CPU temps

as for question i would think two groups of holes {INLET, OUTLET} with fan sucking air through the OUTLET group , the placement options and caveats below :D

sucking or blowing depends on number of holes and airflow volume the fan style etc. a simple experiment ought to show which produces more airflow through the hole groupings

OPT1: INLET over CPU / OUTLET elsewhere
CPU gets cool fresh air but hot air circulates path to the outlet gradually heating up the entire PPC ?

OPT2: OUTLET over CPU / INLET elsewhere
CPU gets ?slightly? warmed air flow but cool air circulates path to the outlet keeping the unit cooler for a time until cpu heating ovewelms the cooling ?

guess i am a wind bag ... try these links for other info

caveatipse - you slay me....you really do....

You could keep taking it in and out of this:

Or (as we say here in Manchester UK) sack it off and buy either one of these:

or

Failing that, you could move to Chicago, as I belive they have very cold winters there....

Sorry...couldn't resist taking the pee

Yes I am extreme lol. My desktop has a nozzle with 5 220 cfm fans inside lol. Ok, I tihnk sucking is better. But I like your water cooling idea. Hmmm. (maniacal look in eyes)

well i had another thought after i posted.

cut a hole over the cpu and use some thermal glue to mount a heat sink (? memory chip style ?) to top of cpu, the heatsink would protrude through the hole and mount a fan on top of the heatsink

Brilliant! That is what I am going to do. And I will post pics every step of the way!
