Unplugged my PDA fromt eh charger yesterday morning and went out the door. Opened the case a few hours later and it was on and froze on the time screen showing the date and time, but several hours behind. It wouldnt shut off and would not respond to any buttons. I put it down and checked a few hours later. The screen had gone black but it still wouldnt respond to anything. Once home, I plugged it back it and it came back on almost instantly. Problem was that it came on as if it was brand new and I had to redo all my main settings. Everything that was stored in it, calander, contacts, pics, memos, EVERYTHING, was gone.
Does anyone have an idea on what may have happened?
If I didnt have a back up on my computer ( I didnt, I know - my bad) is there anyway of retrieving my old info.?
Anything I can do to prevent this from happening again?

The unit is about 13 months old, never been dropped or abused and the battery has never gone down past a 1/3 charge and is plugged into the charger on a nightly basis for 6-8 hours, sometimes longer.

THANKS.

Basically the battery ran down enough to the stage that the memory was lost. Only a backup [sd card program, few of them around] or a hotsync would bring back your lost info...

Sorry I couldn't help...

Did you try a soft reset when it was playing up earlier? Just at least then it would have come back and you could have shut it down til you could charge it...

As for the future, hotsync more so you'll only lose a day or two's data, or get an sd backup program, [you might want to test it with a hard reset on the palm, just to make sure it'll recover your info when you DO need it]

It was working fine around 6:30am, and was still on the charger. When I removed it from the charger around 7:45am, it showed a full charge and i never paid that much attention the display screen. By the time I noticed that it was froze, it was nearly 9am and the time froze was 7:21am, before I even removed it from the charger. Once I found it froze, there was noting I could do to shut it off or soft restart. It would not respond to anything. An hour or so later, the screen was black and wouldnt repsond.

I had heard that there are some internal batteries that go bad every so often (these are not recharged when the unti is plugged in) and then they give little or no warning when they go. The only thing to do is replace them (if possible) and hotsync every day in anticipation of it happening again when the new batteries die.

Also, is there a cradle made for this unit? SImply setting it in the cradle to hotsync (backup) to the computer and charge everyday would be so mcuh easier than now.

Thanks again for your help.

No problem, welcome to the pdastreet forums.

No cradle as such, just the cable, but I've got a hotsync charging cable [bought it on ebay, several brands available] and I'm running the trial of Backupman, [sd card based backup program] which seems to do what I need. I'll need to hard reset during the week to see just how good it is :)
