psion tavel modem problems

Just picked up a cheap psion travel modem from Ebay. Its the old style lozenge type at 14.4k. all the cables came with it but when i connect it to my 5mx and try to open web or mail it says no response from the modem.It works fine over infrared with my siemens s35i mobile.

can anyone here tell me wether 1st the modem is compatible with my 5mx and also what settings i should use with it?

also should there be any indication on the modem that it is powered ie a light??

The 14.4k serial connected "Travel Modem" works OK with a 5mx except for Fax. There is a problem where it doesn't send 'end of page' properly at the end of the first page.

Otherwise, you shouldn't have a problem. Have you put in fresh batteries, because it is quite power hungry? I normally used it with a mains adaptor for this reason - the Series 3 mains adaptor, not the S5 one. There is no indicator to show that it is transferring data, only an indicator for mains power and there is no on/off switch - it is controlled by the Psion.
